Tekdata Forges Strategic Partnership with ISL to meet surge in demand for biometric technology Tuesday 28 August 2001 PDF Print Tekdata Network Solutions (specialist distributor of SonicWALL internet security appliances, Better Online Solutions enterprise VoIP gateway solutions, Precise Biometrics fingerprint readers and Cherry advanced performance keyboards) has formed a strategic alliance with biometric security specialist ISL Informer Systems, with an agreement to sell ISL's SentriNET and e-SentriNET authentication products into key industries such as health and defence. Tekdata, the sole UK Precise Biometrics and largest Cherry keyboard distributor required a client and network biometric authentication software suite to complement its biometric fingerprint and keyboard range, to support the Windows NT, Windows 2000 ADS and Novell NDS operating systems. Tekdata's, Product Development Manager, Chan Bansal commented "By adding the SentriNET range from ISL, we can now support a greater choice of networking environments, enabling us to provide end-to-end security for a greater number of customers. Biometric security is fast becoming the accepted norm for secure access to network and web-based resources, and therefore represents a golden opportunity for the Channel to service and support a prime market." The two companies are currently working together to develop and enhance the product's capability further. About SentriNET - Network Log-On Fingerprint templates created at enrolment are stored as an attribute of a user's user account, either in the Security Account Manager (SAM) database in an NT4 environment, the Directory in Novell (NDS) and Windows 2000 Active Directory Server (ADS) environments, or on a smart card or similar personal storage device. A live fingerprint capture is then authenticated against these stored templates during the logon process, and access to the network is either granted or denied depending on the result of this authentication attempt. SentriNET is supported on Windows 95,98, NT4 and Win 2000 networked workstations. SentriNET can be installed on a standalone machine running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation/Server or Windows 2000 Professional. In this configuration all user accounts are managed on a single computer. The administrator of the computer adds a biometric capability to the accounts of users, and verification of the users takes place on the same computer. About e-SentriNET ™ - Secure Access to Web resources e-SentriNET uses a person's fingerprint to authenticate their identity when accessing Web Servers or Web Pages. At the enrolment stage a number of readings of each finger are taken and a digital template created. Depending on the network-operating platform, these templates are encrypted and stored either as a database record on a secure part of the network server, in the Directory (NDS or ADS) as an attribute of the user 's object, or on Smart Card. Once the template has been securely stored it can be accessed across the network or from the smart card to provide authentication for a live fingerprint. http://www.informer.co.uk http://www.tekdata.co.uk Editors Note: About Tekdata Established in 1969,Tekdata incorporated as a bespoke design and manufacturer of specialist cable assemblies and wiring harnesses.
