ENTERASYS NETWORKS ANNOUNCES NEW ADDITIONS TO VERTICAL HORIZON SWITCHING LINE Thursday 30 August 2001 PDF Print Two New High-Capacity Switches Provide Industry Leading Price, Performance and Features Along With Ease of Use and High Reliability NEWBURY, UK – August 30, 2001 – Enterasys Networks Inc., a leader in secure, available and mobile enterprise networking solutions, has broadened its Vertical Horizon™ line with the addition of two new workgroup switches. Both the VH-2402-L3 and the VH-8TX1MF standalone switches allow high-performance, full-featured Ethernet switching in small to medium-sized network backbone applications, as well as high-performance, direct end-station connectivity. The new VH-2402-L3 is a wire-speed fixed configuration Layer 3 Ethernet switch that provides 24 RJ45 ports of wire-speed 10/100BaseTX connectivity and one option slot for 1000BaseSX/LX or 1000BaseT uplink modules. The first product in the Vertical Horizon family to offer Layer 3 routing functionality on all 24 ports and uplinks, it features built-in management per unit and can be configured and managed via Telnet, console, or Web-based management tools. By implementing IP static routes, IGMP, and planned support for 802.1x, the VH-2402-L3 provides performance and security features that are typically found only in more costly switching products. The VH-8TX1MF is an 8-port 10/100 switch that offers a multimode fiber uplink, making it an ideal switch solution for multi-dwelling units. This new product also features built-in onboard management, as well as offering convergence support for time-sensitive applications such as voice and video streaming with configurable priority queuing per the IEEE 802.1p standard. “With wire-speed performance on all ports and industry-leading features that allow them to integrate into small to medium-size networks, these two new switches significantly expand the scalability of solutions within the Vertical Horizon family,” said Ken Kogut, product marketing director for switch products at Enterasys.
