Bracknell UK, 11 September 2001 - T-Mobil, a leading provider of mobile telecommunications worldwide and subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has chosen Vitria BusinessWare as its enterprise application integration (EAI) solution, for its Operational Support Systems for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (OSS for UMTS) project. BusinessWare’s key selling points for T-Mobil were its open interfaces, support for common standards and capability to adapt to changing business conditions.

T-Mobil was successful in its bid for a UMTS mobile communications license in August 2000 in Germany helping to position UTMS as the new global standard for third generation mobile communications. A prerequisite for the successful development of the next mobile communications generation is fast network development, and, to this end T-Mobil plans to go-live with the UTMS network in 2002.

At this stage T-Mobil needs to integrate and adapt the various Operational Support Systems (OSS) that will serve the UMTS network. The Vitria BusinessWare integration server will be used to implement a persistent layer for the distribution of network inventory data within T-Mobil’s multi-vendor operational support system environment, taking into account the interfaces to existing applications like Metrica NPR from ADC, OpenMaster from Evidian and ArcSDE/IMS from ESRI

BusinessWare will help T-Mobil realise fully integrated business functionality for the operation and maintenance of its 2G/3G mobile network, including configuration, performance and fault management, workforce management and logistics, and geographical network visualisation. The various systems involved use different standards including ftp, ASCII, SQL, CORBA and XML, all of which BusinessWare will provide interfaces between.

Michael Berberich, project leader at T-Mobil commented:

”The openness of the OSS architecture based on a communication bus and a common shared data model will ensure the provisioning of a consistent and timely accurate network inventory data to all connected applications. It will facilitate the fast incorporation of future operational support systems. The reason why we haven chosen Vitria BusinessWare as integration server is because this product meets our requirements for flexibility and adaptability. BusinessWare also offers excellent throughput rates and the required scalability.

Marcus Schmelzer, Vice President EMEA at Vitria commented:

“Europe is leading the way in the mobile communications market. This flagship project with T-Mobil underlines our market leadership in the telecommunications sector. The Vitria solution provides the scalability, modularity, flexibility and integration capability demanded by T-Mobil and has proven its effectiveness in practice.”
