The contract is worth an immediate £1.7 million. ID Data was one of the original development partners at the start of Tesco’s Club Card programme in 1994. Tesco was the first retail company to launch a card loyalty scheme in the UK, an innovation other supermarkets and retail companies followed. Tesco’s, the UK’s leading food retailer, has shown that customers welcome loyalty schemes. It has now decided to recard their client database and introduce a new look product using the inhouse technology and expertise of ID Data. The project will be the largest ever single mailing, in either the retail or banking sectors, in the UK. In excess of 10 million mail packs will be distributed, each containing a fully personalised card and letter from Tesco that carry the customer’s new Club Card number. In an earlier contract, ID Data was also contracted to supply the standard Tesco in-store point of sale products, which act as a mechanism to attract new club card members.
