German industry-independent security website recognises Trend Micro as the leader in the Trojan and virus support arena

Marlow, England, 12 September 2001 – Trend Micro (NASDAQ: TMIC, TSE: 4704), a leading provider of network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, is pleased to announce that it has achieved best results in a support test executed by the industry-independent security website Trend Micro’s quick reaction and the quality of its responses were particularly convincing to the test editors when awarding this accolade.

The focus of this Trojan test was on the quality of support services that antivirus software companies provide to potential customers. The test editors were not so much interested in product support itself or in the performance of the virus scanners, but wanted to receive answers to questions on viruses, Trojans and other malicious code that end users frequently have to face.

To conduct the test the editors gave themselves fictitious names and sent five questions, via different service providers to the support centres of each of the ten most important antivirus software companies. These questions concerned general problems such as virus warnings, dealing with boot sector viruses and the differentiation between hoaxes and viruses. As an added test each support centre was sent an unknown Trojan-server in a password-protected ZIP-file for analysis. Credit was given to those companies who were quick to respond, correct in their answers and advice and who replied in German.

Trend Micro, which is known to end users for its consumer desktop antivirus software, PC-cillinä, achieved the highest score, leaving its competitors far behind. Especially impressive were the quick responses and the quality of answers: “emails were answered within 30 minutes of sending,” says Andreas Ebert from Trojan-Info. “The solution provided by Trend Micro was correct in every single case.”

“We pay as much attention as we can when providing support to end users,” says Raimund Genes, European Vice President Sales and Marketing, at Trend Micro. “In doing this are looking ahead; today’s end users could be tomorrow’s IT administrators, who will remember the good service they received from Trend Micro.”
