Organon subsidiary, Organon Ireland, selects J.D. Edwards OneWorld Xe over Oracle and Intentia to support collaborative supply chain project

J.D. Edwards, a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, today announced that Organon Ireland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Organon, has begun a £3 million enterprise project. The project was won by a team comprising Software Resources Ltd, a J.D. Edwards reseller delivering technical consultation, Deloitte & Touche offering configuration services and enterprise risk management, and J.D. Edwards providing the enterprise wide solution - OneWorld Xe (extended enterprise) software.

The software will streamline Organon Ireland’s business functions including distribution and manufacturing operations. J.D. Edwards, Software Resources Ltd and Deloitte & Touche secured the contract by providing the best functionality fit, pharmaceutical experience, support and traceability systems.

Organon Ireland manufactures a range of innovative prescription medicines for worldwide supply. Organon is the biggest subsidiary of Akzo Nobel Pharma, one of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies. Organon recorded sales in 2000 of more than £2.3 billion and employs more than 10,000 people worldwide.

Organon Ireland selected J.D. Edwards OneWorld Xe to improve operational efficiencies across the organisation, following a review of existing disparate business applications. The software enables Organon Ireland to become Euro-enabled and is designed to deliver a consistent approach to Organon Ireland’s planning, distribution, financial and manufacturing operations. Organon Ireland will use the software to reduce inventory and improve product delivery during the first phase of the project through improved visibility of all business data.

Colm Dunne, Implementation Project Manager, Organon Ireland said, “We required a solution that would provide the company with a greater visibility of our total business process, which our previous stand-alone applications could not present.”

“With J.D. Edwards, we will move away from localised IT and paper based systems. This new system will allow us to record all information in one solution by creating a single repository for our business data. This streamlines our processes by eliminating multiple input of the same information.”

“The benefits are already being seen even though we are only in the early development stages of phase one. The integrated business processes and availability of information that OneWorld Xe delivers allow us to understand and visualise our business,” continued Dunne. “J.D. Edwards software is an open solution that will prepare Organon for the business challenges of the future. External collaboration with customers, partners and suppliers is planned for a global supply chain solution.”

Dunne concluded, “Organon Ireland’s implementation of J.D. Edwards OneWorld Xe is a test-bed project for Organon. If the project is successful Organon will investigate a roll out of the system across the international network of Organon’s Production facilities. We are very pleased with the J.D. Edwards implementation so far and the scalability of the solution enables us to expand the company’s project across the entire global business.”

Trevor Salomon, Marketing Director, EMEA, J.D. Edwards, said, “Organon Ireland realised that it needed to automate and integrate its internal business processes and move to a new, flexible enterprise solution. J.D. Edwards will play a key role in Organon’s future collaboration with partners, suppliers and customers.”

Organon Ireland is currently designing its core business processes in line with the implementation and will be testing phase one of the project later this year. Phase one will be completed by early 2002 with the potential to utilise HR, advanced warehousing and project management modules at a later date. The system will run on a Windows 2000 platform using an Oracle 8i database.
