Alterian Expands into North America Tuesday 18 September 2001 PDF Print Fast-forward growth as Alterian opens offices in Chicago and Boston and signs first US customer LONDON –18 September 2001 – Alterian plc (LSE:ALN), a provider of column-based analysis technology, has expanded its European operations by opening offices in Chicago and Boston, North America. The company also announced its first US customer, Newark Electronics, an electronics components distributor. Newark Electronics has implemented, in less than 60 days, the first component of its new customer behaviour solution using Alterian’s technology. The solution will enable Newark to rapidly access more than 15 gigabytes of customer-related data in order that it can be compared and analysed rapidly for behavioural patterns. Newark will use its new system to generate lists, track marketing campaigns and perform customer segmentation. Commenting on the implementation, Steve Hopkins, assistant vice president, marketing, at Newark, says: “We were impressed with how fast we could deploy Alterian’s customer intelligence solution, which will help us get to the heart of customer lifestyle analysis. Using Alterian, we can now query our transaction database and derive critical insight into our customer’s behaviour with run times of seconds versus hours.” Alterian’s North American headquarters includes a fully operational customer centre, training facilities and development lab. Its US operation employs more than 40 people in sales, marketing, operations and development. “With strong growth in Europe and continued interest from partners and companies in North America, we have established an operation capable of meeting customer and partner demand,” said David Eldridge, CEO of Alterian. “We are aggressively developing both strategic partnerships and new customer opportunities. We expect that Newark Electronics is the first of many US businesses to use Alterian technology to underpin its critical customer intelligence solutions.” -Ends – About Newark Electronics Newark Electronics is one of North America's largest distributors of electronic components, test instruments, tools and wire, stocking over 150,000 products from 300 leading manufacturers.
