ID Data renews Barclaycard contract worth £5 million

ID Data plc, the UK’s largest supplier of secure transaction systems and smart card services, today announces that Barclaycard has renewed its contract with the Company for 4.5 million smart cards supplied with UKIS chips. This contract is worth £5 million and runs until June 2002. TTi Card Technology, a joint venture company of ID Data, will be fulfilling this order.

ID Data won the original contract against international competition from the largest global suppliers in the card business. Since winning the contract, ID Data has installed a production platform that meets with all VISA and Mastercard requirements.

Barclaycard currently has in excess of 25% of the UK market for credit cards and ID Data has an estimated 38% share of the UK smart card financial market.

Peter Crook, Managing Director of Barclaycard, said: “This extension of the original contract represents a significant confirmation of the increasing importance that Barclays places on our chip card strategy and our faith in ID Data’s ability to deliver exceptional solutions. These solutions meet Barclaycard’s increasing demands to control credit and debit card fraud, as well as offering value added technology to our customer base.”

Peter Cox, CEO of both ID Data and TTi Card Technology, commented: “This renewal by a major global client is extremely gratifying not only for ID Data, but also our business partners Toshiba and Toppan in Japan. The fact that we have not only satisfied the market leader in the European credit card business, but extended the relationship is a true endorsement of the Company’s plans and capabilities.”
