Marlow, England, 20th September 2001 – David Perry, global director of education for Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC, TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, will be an invited speaker at Virus Bulletin 2001. Taking place 27 – 28 September at the Hilton Prague, Czech Republic, the event will focus on the current virus issues affecting the IT community. Perry, along with co-presenter, Righard Zwienenberg, at Norman ASA, will be speaking on Friday, September 28, 2001 at 9:40 CET.
Based on a paper written together with Joe Hartmann, director of North American antivirus research for Trend Micro, Perry and Zwienenberg, the Virus Bulletin presentation will address issues such as how aspiring virus researchers are to learn the skills needed in this expanding field; how virus samples are acquired, catalogued, housed and traded with other researchers; how to best communicate with other researchers, and whether there is an acceptable way to deal with virus writers.
Perry says, “Virus research throughout its history has been fraught with controversy and ethical ambiguity. There are various explanations for this, but in a field where trust is the main coinage, it is vital that the common methods and moral structures be aired in a public forum.”
The Virus Bulletin Conference features leading anti-virus experts and focuses on the current virus issues affecting the IT community. In addition to educational presentations, the conference is supported by an extensive exhibition, offering participants the opportunity to discuss, exchange ideas, and network with key industry players. Now in its tenth successful year, the Virus Bulletin International Conference & Exhibition is firmly established and widely regarded as the only event focusing exclusively on the threat of computer viruses on the business and technology industry.
Recognised as a leading authority on computer virus prevention, Perry has more than 10 years of experience working with industry-leading antivirus solution providers and educating the public about safe computing practices. He speaks regularly at security events and with the media, and he recently co-chaired a conference at the White House on the topic of public education and critical system security. At Trend Micro, Perry works to educate network administrators, computer users, and the public at large about computer viruses and how to protect against them.
