NMS Communications Selected by Interactive Media to Enable Loquendo's Revolutionary, European-based Voice-Activated Web Browsing Solution

NMS Communications technology has been integrated with Interactive Media's Meltemi., interactive voice response (IVR) solution to create one of the worlds first multi-lingual interactive voice platforms for Loquendo, a company spun off from Telecom Italia Lab specialising in automatic services using synthetic voice technology.

Using Interactive Media's Meltemi Front End, Loquendo has developed Loquendo's VoxNauta TM, a complete multi-lingual voice browsing platform that makes it possible to surf the Internet or an Intranet through the use of a phone - mobile or landline. VoxNauta also acts as a "personal assistant" providing customisable services such as:

- vocal access to e-mail, calendars and agendas,

- voice dialing and

- vocal bookmarks for access to frequently visited web addresses.

Thanks to NMS' technologies Interactive Media has produced the frontrunner Meltemi. This innovative system integrates speech, information and communication technologies for the rapid creation of applications. This allows for the realisation of interactive services based on human to machine conversation with effective and useable results. In addition, VoxNauta offers enterprise customers a sophisticated Customer Relationship Management system with automated call centre and customer personalisation capabilities. For enterprises with multiple customer touch points, VoxNauta enables voice commerce solutions that facilitate voice access to web content, providing collaborators and sales forces with real-time customer information via an intranet service accessible by phone.

NMS' technology allows Interactive Media and Loquendo to take advantage of carrier-grade density, unmatched capacity and price/performance leadership. The NMS platform supports multiple media types to service a wide range of voice and signalling applications. Additionally, NMS' DSP architecture delivers an open development environment, a rich set of features, built-in scalability, and increased processing power - resulting in quicker time to market for all voice-enabled services.

"We chose NMS' platform to be a part of VoxNauta, not only for the product's exceptional scalability, robustness and open development environment, but also because of the company's technology leadership and proven success in enabling large-scale voice portal implementations," said Roberto Valente Managing Director and co-founder of Interactive Media. "In a market environment where time is of the essence, we knew NMS could help us rapidly and expertly enable this innovative multi-lingual platform for voice activated web applications. We have NMS to thank for our timely success."

"The voice portal market has been a strong focus for NMS and we are thrilled to be in a position to enable breakthrough solutions such as VoxNauta with Interactive Media," said Brian Demers, vice president and general manager of the New Network Solutions business unit at NMS Communications. "We look forward to supporting carriers and enterprises as they increasingly rely on comprehensive solutions to both deliver enhanced services and provide voice-driven e-commerce and customer service capabilities to customers, and are proud of our work with Interactive Media to provide such a solution for Loquendo."

Industry research indicates that the demand for the kind of voice-driven services enabled by NMS, Interactive Media and Loquendo is growing rapidly. According to industry analyst research group International Data Corporation, the number of cell phone users worldwide will reach more than 1.1 billion by 2005. In addition, Anderson Consulting predicts that more than 500 million people around the world will use their mobile phone to access the Internet by 2005.

"We are very happy with the progress we've made within the European voice portal market through VoxNauta, and look forward to extending this success to the rest of the world," said Rosanna Duce, responsible of marketing and sale department of Loquendo. "We are very grateful for NMS and Interactive Media for helping us to quickly bring to market a product and technology that is an industry first. We look forward to a long fruitful relationship with both companies."
