Aruna Companion becomes first commercial application of Human Genome Project
London, 25 September 2001 – Aruna plc, the UK-based developer of information access software enabling accelerated business intelligence, today announces the launch of its flagship product, Aruna Companion. Working alongside a company’s existing systems, Aruna Companion enables business and non-IT literate users to analyse data and extract answers to the most complex business queries tens to hundreds of times faster than conventional technologies.
Aruna Companion is the first commercial application of unique mathematical algorithms developed for the Human Genome Project. Through advanced mathematics, the product copies and compresses data from multiple sources into a unified and optimised format - the Query Data Set (QDS). The QDS increases the number of users able to access information, and simultaneously protects and enhances existing data warehouse investments whilst relieving network traffic on high volume systems or websites.
Aruna Companion makes it easy for business users to query information, as questions can be entered in conversational-style English, producing interactive ‘train of thought’ reports across all business units including marketing, sales, purchasing/procurement and finance. Aruna Companion learns dynamically from each query and enables users to build their own business rules – without any programming skills.
Jack Hewitt, CEO, Aruna plc, comments: “There has been an explosion in the amount of data stored within structured corporate databases over the last 10 years, largely as a result of the internet. This has made it increasingly difficult for business users to extract the information they need in order to remain one step ahead of the competition. Having a solution to this problem can be worth millions.”
Aruna plc has carried out a number of successful trials of Aruna Companion for blue-chip organisations in the UK. These include: an online database wanting to offer end users the ability to interrogate telephone directory listings with limited or incomplete information, using ‘fuzzy matching’ capabilities; and a marketing director for a major mobile phone company looking to maximise profitability of tariffs based upon customer usage data across varying bands and regions.
Andreas Kolind, Datamonitor, says: “With greater attention being given to analytical tools, Aruna Companion gives an innovative approach to the rapid query needs of organisations. The ability to query large amounts of structured data will be increasingly important in coming years. Aruna has created a product that meets this need well.”
Aruna Companion can be applied to any structured business information source, delivering fast return on investment by optimising business user productivity without the burden of IT support. It acts as a companion to existing data warehouse environments, dramatically increasing performance levels at a fraction of the overall investment cost.
Technical Features - Aruna Companion has four distinct tiers:
· Aruna Interface - Provides three ‘open’ query interface options, which complement and extend existing query practices/applications
· Aruna Logic Server – Supports declarative business rules and data modelling techniques
· Aruna FastPath – Accelerates the speed of SQL queries. Consists of three interconnected components: FastPath QDS Builder, FastPath QDS and FastPath Query Processor
· Aruna Connector – Seamlessly links the FastPath QDS Builder to a range of data sources
