Former Versata CEO joins Aruna plc

London, 25 September 2001 – Aruna plc, the UK-based developer of information access software for accelerated business intelligence, today announces the appointment of Jack Hewitt as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Leading the management team, Hewitt will be responsible for driving the company’s strategic growth and profitability to become a leading supplier of information access technology supporting many markets.

Based in London, Hewitt will initially focus on driving Aruna’s expansion within the financial, telco and government sectors in the UK, laying the groundwork for extension into the US and Europe by late 2002. He will be responsible for managing new customers, business development and investor relations and overseeing strategic alliances. He will ultimately have the opportunity of ensuring business initiatives are implemented to achieve near-term profitability. From Aruna’s headquarters Hewitt will also oversee operations at the company’s research and development base in Waterloo, Canada.

Hewitt brings over 35 years’ experience to Aruna in managing software and systems integration companies. In his previous role as president and chief executive officer of Versata, a US-based e-business automation software company, Hewitt grew the company 400% for three consecutive years establishing the basis for it to be the seventh best-performing IPO on its first day of trading on NASDAQ in early 2000. Hewitt plans a similar success for his new UK venture.

He comments: “Joining such a young and innovative organisation at its evolutionary stage is a fantastic opportunity for me. Aruna’s existing technology addresses critical business analysis problems faced today by many large organisations and we believe the time is right to commercialise our value proposition. I look forward to participating in Aruna’s growth and development as a company.”

Hewitt’s professional record includes roles as COO of TRW Financial Systems; COO of a private energy company; undersecretary and CFO of the US Department of Energy; assistant secretary of financial management of the US Air Force; and vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank.

Hewitt continues: “Aruna has a strong, dedicated team of people based both here in the UK and at our research and development site in Canada. We have a great deal to offer our present and future customers, and my aim is to develop Aruna’s position as innovative thought-leaders throughout the information access marketplace.”
