… email information request system to revolutionise research …

Journalists from all sectors can send information requests to PRs in particular sectors thanks to the launch today of Response Source.

The system is already proved in the technology sector, where it is known as Tech Response Source. Over 5,000 quality journalist enquiries have already been delivered since 1998.

Now Response Source is available for a total of 24 sectors at, allowing journalists to send enquiries specific to their market.

The system works by allowing journalists to submit enquiries – requests for information to help with news or feature articles – on the site. These are then sent immediately by email to the appropriate PRs.

The enquiries are carefully formatted to help PR professionals respond quickly and appropriately, resulting in good responses for journalists.

Freelance journalist Guy Clapperton said: ‘I find the service invaluable. Clearly there's no substitute for having your own contacts but nobody knows everyone so the chance to let hundreds of potentially relevant people know you're working on something in their area can only be a good thing.’

Andrew Smith, director of PR and marketing agency Object Marketing, said: ‘I can in all honestly say that Response Source is an indispensable service for both PRs and journalists. Many of the journalists I talk to say that it has proved very valuable in allowing them to canvass input for features in a more efficient fashion.’

Smith added: ‘On the PR side, I think it has also prompted PRs to become more focused on how to pitch and present their stories to journalists.’

Daryl Willcox, former journalist and chief executive of the company behind Response Source, said: ‘We’ve already revolutionised the tech media sector, now we are going to do the same across the whole industry.

‘Response Source has been designed with both the journalist in mind, which means it really works. It’s quick and efficient – it has to be to support today’s fast-moving media’.

PR professionals simply register to get the enquiries by going to (or by calling 0870 774 0777). They get the enquiries free for all the sectors except three relating to technology and business, which require a subscription to the Tech Response Source package. Already over 400 companies subscribe to this package, which includes the FeaturesExec publication contacts and features list database.

The launch is in two phases. Firstly the PR community was invited to register for the enquiries. This started on 14 September. In just two weeks enough recipients have registered for all the categories allow the second phase, a full launch to the journalist community.
