Santa Clara, CA, October 3, 2001 — Auspex Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASPX), a provider of Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions, announced today that its new NS3010 enterprise file server has received validation for use in Oracle database environments under the Oracle Storage Compatibility Program. The validation helps ensure that the Auspex NS3010 can reliably store and serve Oracle files in demanding enterprise settings.

“Organizations around the world rely on Oracle to provide database solutions for very large or highly distributed mission-critical operations, and they need to be equally discriminating when they select their storage technology in order to avoid data loss and corruption,” said Jack Kedian, Manager of Strategic Alliances for Auspex Systems. “This validation demonstrates that Oracle customers who use our NS3010 in tandem with Oracle can expect data availability and integrity even when usage is exceptionally high or when systems fail.”

The validation is based on rigorous testing utilizing Oracle’s NAS test suite. The procedures included testing the ability of the Auspex system to recover from an extensive series of machine and software failure scenarios without adverse effects on Oracle files. The Auspex NS3010 passed all tests, including failures of the file

server, file server and Oracle server in combination, both hard- and soft-mounted filesystems, and the NVRAM used to store filesystem intent log information.

Other tests assured that the Auspex system does not return write confirmation to the Oracle server until data is written to disk; that file locks do not fail in the event of fileserver failure; and that cache blocks operate properly if a restart is required during a write-through cache on a Network File Services (NFS) client.

The Auspex NS3010 that earned the Oracle program validation is the first model in a new family of file servers that was introduced in May. The new NS3000 series scales up to 68 TB of storage on a single server and offers file serving power exceeding 19,755 I/Os and 55 MB per second for a single node for UNIX and Windows

environments, with proportionately faster performance in full three-node configuration — the highest scalability and fastest performance in the industry. The series also offers a rich range of data management tools for ensuring high availability, high-speed backup and replication, and maximum uptime.

Auspex file servers are used by industries and enterprises to optimize storage management infrastructures and provide fast, reliable access to multi-terabytes of consolidated UNIX and Windows data. Fast and seamless file sharing between UNIX and Windows clients is facilitated by native support by both platforms, eliminating the performance penalties and security violations that can occur when emulation software is required. This architecture ensures that restricted file permissions are enforced, preventing unauthorized users from accessing protected UNIX or Windows files across platforms.
