MILAN- October 5th, 2001 – Streamgate AG of Munich, has selected Zhone to supply a multiservice telecommunication network for nationwide rollout. Streamgate is the first German operator to offer integrated broadband telecommunication, Internet and entertainment services.
The contract includes Central Office DSL equipment for co-location sites, Integrated Access Devices that serve as the customer premises equipment for Streamgate’s subscribers and VoDSL equipment for the integration of voice and data over the same DSL line. Zhone equipment is already installed at 85 Central Offices at Streamgate and is contracted to install many more by the end of the year.

Streamgate’s service, currently available in Rosenheim and Munich, will be made available in 38 more regional districts across Germany by the end of the year.

Zhone is supplying Streamgate with a full SLMS (Single Line, MultiService) network solution, comprising the Sechtor100 Universal Voice Gateway, the BAN (Broadband Access Node) service node, the Z-Edge 64 Integrated Access Device and ZMS network and subscriber management software.

Cesare Sironi, vice president of Zhone EMEA, says: "Zhone and Streamgate share the same vision of what a modern xDSL network should be: a multiservice conduit that makes it easy and cost effective to provision ISDN telephony internet and entertainment services over a single copper wire. Streamgate is first to offer these unique services, such as Voice over DSL ISDN telephony in the German market, and we are delighted to be providing the access network for it”.

Maximilian Schneiderbauer, CEO of Streamgate AG, commenting on the agreement says: “Streamgate as a service provider was set up to offer multiple services from day one. Thanks to Zhone’s broadband access network, Streamgate DSL subscribers have fast Internet access, advanced ISDN telephony features and access to entertainment content over the single, low cost medium of a simple copper wire”.

SLMS (Single Line, MultiService) : the key to Streamgate’s customer satisfaction

Zhone’s SLMS architecture achieves multi-transport, multi-service integration through the cooperative efforts of multiple components distributed across a carrier’s regional network and managed from the centralized Network Operations Center (NOC).

A key component of the SLMS architecture at Streamgate is Zhone’s Broadband Access Node (BAN), providing a multi-service interface between core networks—private carrier backbones, the Internet, and the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)—and local loop resources.
The BAN serves as a line aggregation and termination platform and can be used to integrate multiple services in single Point-of-Presence (POP) or Central Office (CO) implementations, or in distributed network deployments. Depending on the application, a single BAN can integrate the functionality of a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), a Digital Loop Carrier (DLC), a Digital Access Cross Connect System (DACs), a Subscriber Management System (SMS), a Voice over DSL gateway, IP routing, and edge switching into a fully integrated, centrally manageable platform.

To enable the delivery of simultaneous ISDN Telephony, Internet access and entertainment for Streamgate subscribers, the Z-Edge 64 IAD (Integrated access device) will be installed at the customer premises. Zhone’s Z-Edge 64™ is the first managed broadband Integrated Access Device (IAD) that offers plug-and-play compatibility with standards-based voice gateways and customer premises ISDN and analogue lines and PBXs. Designed to bring a full suite of voice and data services to small and branch office customer installations, the Z-Edge 64 also supports automatic subscriber activation and full remote configuration and management. The Z-Edge 64 allows carriers and service providers to provide integrated voice and data services over SDSL, G.SHDSL, or ADSL connections without costly on-site configuration, testing, and service activation, so it significantly cuts integration costs and deployment time.
