BlueKite supports Microsoft. Pocket PC 2002 launch with new software release

LONDON - October 5th 2001 - BlueKite.com, a leading mobile Internet software provider, today announced a new release of its bandwidth optimisation software to support Pocket PC 2002, the next-generation software for personal digital assistants (PDAs) launched today by Microsoft Corp. As a Pocket PC 2002 launch partner, BlueKite is reinforcing its commitment to the Pocket PC platform, and to delivering wireless connection speeds that turn PDAs into powerful mobile Internet devices for both consumers and business users.

BlueKite's solution is available to mobile operators, manufacturers of Windows Powered handheld devices, and directly to end-users via the BlueKite website (www.bluekite.com). By speeding up mobile Internet access, BlueKite's software gives operators a powerful tool in developing profitable revenue streams from mobile data services. It offers a simple 'one click' installation process, and is complementary with other network solutions that focus on connectivity, content delivery and security, to provide a fully comprehensive solution. BlueKite is already working with O2 (formerly BT Cellnet) to develop a mobile Internet solution for consumers and business users, based on the new Pocket PC 2002 software.

Today's software release builds on BlueKite's existing Pocket PC software launched in April 2001. It enables wireless access speeds equivalent to dial-up connections via mobile devices running Pocket PC 2002 software. BlueKite's technology functions through caching and compression algorithms that reduce unnecessary data transmission over wireless networks.

"Enabling mobile computing solutions is new to many organisations," said Adam Anger, Group Product Manager, Microsoft EMEA Mobility Group. "BlueKite's software empowers its mobile operator customers, such as Swisscom and Connect Austria, to deliver powerful Pocket PC-based solutions, allowing consumers and business users to enhance the phone functionality of Pocket PC 2002 and benefit from a rich Web browsing experience on the move."

"As the demand for Web-enabled mobile computing devices grows, we are committed to working with Microsoft to bring the familiar Windows-based Internet experience to users anytime, anywhere," said Robin Abrams, President and CEO at BlueKite. "Real mobile Internet access has been tempered by slow wireless networks and very complex connections. BlueKite's technology is a key component in overcoming these challenges, and by working in partnership with industry leaders, we are on track to make the wireless Web a reality for Pocket PC users."
