TIME Computers, the leading manufacturer and retailer of home computers, has today announced the launch of its latest range of PCs featuring the newly released AMD AthlonTM XP processor family.

The XP stands for “Xtra Performance” and these processors have been optimised to deliver even higher performance with Microsoft Windows Xperience, or Windows XP as it is more commonly known.

The new “Palomino” chip core outpaces the existing Athlon “Thunderbird” core, delivering Xtra Performance for each MHz clock speed. The Xtra Performance rating allows comparison with similarly numbered Intel Pentium 4 processors.

The flagship system, currently the best-performing PC in the Time Machine range, features an AthlonTM XP 1800+ processor with 266-MHz bus. A combination that gives significantly greater performance than the Intel Pentium 4 processor 1800 MHz - in some benchmarks over 30% faster. This optimum performance system also includes 512MB DDR memory, 64MB GeForce2 graphics, 160GB hard disk storage space, Creative SoundBlaster 128 sound, 16x DVD-ROM drive, CD-copier, 56k modem and a 17” screen. Retailing at an extraordinary £1189 + VAT and delivery, with 9 months interest-free credit available, this Ultimate Time Machine assures the latest technology and powerful, affordable home entertainment.

Other systems in the range will include AMD AthlonTM XP 1500+ and AMD AthlonTM XP 1700+ processors.

Imtiaz Ahmed, Research and Development Manager said, “AthlonTM XP, with its Palomino core, is an exciting development in processor technology and provides a quick, effortless computing experience. Systems based around the AthlonTM XP processor will boot and load applications faster, offer rapid results when working with digital media like audio, video and image files and give rapid rendering of complete 3D images”.

Imtiaz added, “AMD’s innovative QuantiSpeedTM architecture enables the AMD AthlonTM XP processor to perform more work with every tick of the clock. The key features of the QuantiSpeedTM architecture are:

· A 9 issue SuperScalar microprocessor

· SuperScalar fully pipelined floating point unit

· Advanced hardware data prefetch

· Enhanced translation look-aside buffer
This new technology, combined with Windows XP will open up new possibilities in home computing”.
