TALLY BREAKS TECHNOLOGY BARRIER WITH 1800 LINES PER MINUTE OFFERING Wednesday 10 October 2001 PDF Print fastest printer throughput of its kind for barcodes, invoices and labels Tally Ltd, the computer printer specialist, today announced the launch of a new line matrix printer, the T6218, which, at 1800 lines per minutes has the fastest throughput of a printer in its class according to industry standard tests (ECMA 132). It is capable of delivering 512,000 pages per month, and its launch builds upon Tally’s innovative position in the printer market since the company invented line matrix printing as far back as 1970. The T6218 is used for producing a variety of outputs, including barcodes, invoices, reports, shipping notes, and delivery labels - often in labour-intensive and inhospitable environments. In contrast with other line printer vendors, Tally’s new single-row hammer bank gives users better definition and true print speed. This makes the T6218 the fastest in terms of throughput and speed, going beyond text for high performance in all print modes. “Tally’s is the market leader in line printing,” said Robin Edwardes, Managing Director at Tally UK. “There is still no substitute for the high-speed, mass volume capabilities of a line printer, and users of these printers also appreciate the negligible cost of ownership. They understand that the real applications of line printing include generating invoices, reports, shipping notes, and packaging labels - using many fonts, lines and graphics. Those in labour-intensive environments don’t want to have to spend time setting their printers in different print modes. We have created the one-fits-all solution that means they can rest easy.” New technology features include: Page Segmentation Architecture This device intelligently arranges data into page “segments” prior to printing, allowing text and graphics to be printed in just one pass and eliminating the need for time- consuming forms reversal. Smart Ribbon Tally has invented the SmartRibbon Ó 250 ‘clean hands’ ribbon cartridge. The ‘stay black’ ribbon is guaranteed until the end of its life, and is four times as long as Tally’s main competitors’ offerings. The ribbon’s ink supply is automatically renewed through the use of peristaltic pump technology, which monitors and renews ink supply. This means that at the end of its 250-million character life, the SmartRibbon’s density is nearly equivalent to other offerings at the beginning of life. Read/Right Barcode Algorithm This ensures that printer readability is Class A flawless, and has never before been achieved with line printer technology. Combined with the SmartRibbon, this yields up to seven times the ribbon life of the nearest competitor. Price and availability The T6218 is available now. Manufactures suggested price is £8595.
