Solution to support rapid, cost-effective deployment of intelligent, next-generation services
NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks,
today announced that the company and its partner, European Computer Telecoms AG (ECT), have successfully completed British Telecom's SS7 IUP conformance testing for the interconnection of ECT's AutoCarrier. softswitch with the British public telephone network. This accreditation will permit NMS Communication and ECT to offer their softswitch solution to the UK carrier market, to support the deployment of rapid, cost-effective deployment of intelligent, next-generation services.
The AutoCarrier solution addresses the needs of today's competitive carrier landscape. In order to deliver new revenue-generating services, carriers with legacy switches are faced with upgrading their existing equipment, which is expensive and consists of many components that in turn take up costly collocation space. Based on next-generation, Internet-enabled software and open standards, AutoCarrier reduces the amount of additional, highly complicated infrastructure required to support these value-added services. AutoCarrier enables direct interconnection to the public network as a service switching point, and accommodates pre-paid and post-paid accounting, web-based administration, unified messaging, Interactive Voice Response (IVR), fax services, conferencing, text-to-speech and voice recognition.
"Assisted by NMS technology, our AutoCarrier offering is now certified for interconnection in the UK," said Walter Rott, ECT's chief technology officer. "Our primary mission is to reduce the cost and complicated architecture required for intelligent value-added services. NMS' commitment to facilitating global deployment and interoperability for the service provider equipment market has strengthened ECT's value-add for carriers and helped make AutoCarrier the leading modular public switch platform throughout Europe."
Based in Munich, ECT is a top developer and manufacturer of next-generation softswitch technology. An all-in-one softswitch, AutoCarrier uses the same hardware platform to provide both interconnection to public telephone networks and intelligent value-added services. By incorporating NMS' hardware and software within AutoCarrier, ECT can provide the high availability, high density and SS7 signalling required by major carriers. Additionally, AutoCarrier utilises NMS technology for trunking and digital signalling processors (DSPs) for all channels - critical for new service delivery.
"We're pleased that NMS solutions have played pivotal roles in enabling ECT's AutoCarrier to pass the British Telecom testing," said Brough Turner, chief technology officer at NMS Communications. "Earning this newest certification reinforces that the NMS/ECT partnership represents a world-class solution for carriers seeking to significantly expand their services offerings."
This latest achievement marks the fourth European country in which the AutoCarrier has been certified for interconnection and underscores the strength of the NMS/ECT teaming.
