WIN Takes Wireless Marketing Into a HighSpeed Era Thursday 11 October 2001 PDF Print - Technology Takes Text Message Bandwidth From 400 per hour to 3000 per minute- http://www.winplc.com http://www.maingate.se In a deal which will take wireless marketing campaigns into new territory, Wireless Information Network (WIN) today announced that it has signed a deal with Swedish developers Maingate to use their real-time SMS inbound solution. WIN is the first company in the UK to roll out the technology which will significantly enhance the solutions available in mobile marketing. The traditional inbound SMS solution using a modem is limited to less than 400 messages per hour whilst WIN's solution through Maingate will allow receipt of up to 3,000 messages per minute. This will allow applications such as voting and competitions to take place in real time. Real time delivery of text messages is important for TV or radio shows where people text in, requests, opinions, competition answers and votes. Also for mass marketing campaigns where a consumer expects an immediate response when they text in to a competition For a prize. Current solutions, such as modem-stacking (where several modems receive text messages simultaneously) and issuing different text numbers to spread the load of the response have not been able to deliver a similar level of service. Peter Norman, Commerical Director, WIN, said: "People expect SMS communication to be instantaneous but when hundreds of thousands of text messages hit a system at once a backlog can quickly build up. The more successful a promotion is the more this can become an issue. Our solution with Maingate sweeps all of these concerns aside and allows our clients to realize the full potential of text messaging as a marketing medium." ~ends~ All press enquiries: Midnight Communications (WIN business and trade media enquiries) Kirstie Young / Antony Mayfield Tel: 01273 666200 Email: WIN@midnight.co.uk Wireless Information Network (all other enquiries): Katie Hollier Tel: 01494 750 500 Email: KatieHollier@winplc.com Maingate: Matz Karlsson Tel: 0703-20 14 01 About Wireless Information Network: WIN, a private limited company, was founded in 1996.
