Courts Plc has co-sourced its Global Retail Application (CoSACS) to London based e-engineering company, Strategic Thought Ltd. The initial one-year contract includes both maintenance and development work and is expected to continue for several years.
Initially developed in-house, the Courts sales and accounts system (CoSACS) will be redeveloped as part of the agreement. Strategic Thought will help integrate “best of breed” applications into the core system to provide the functionality required by an International retailer of the quality and size of Courts Plc.
Courts Plc has over 300 stores in 21 different countries. The company is quoted on the London Stock Exchange with five of its overseas subsidiaries quoted on their local stock exchanges and operates in four regions around the world. Currently in use in the Caribbean CoSACS will be extended to new territories including South East Asia and Pacific & Indian Ocean. Courts’ customers will experience better customer service as a result of more timely delivery of robust systems to its stores.
According to David Fisher, Group Director of Information Technology at Courts, “Courts are looking to the future and using the best technology to extend the functionality of CoSACS with re-useable components. We know Strategic Thought have the right skill sets and relevant knowledge to develop and support the application because we have been working with them since 1998, they are local, good value and we have an excellent working relationship.”
Members of the Courts in-house development team have transferred to Strategic Thought ‘s Wimbledon offices under the supervision of STL management. David Fisher believes they will benefit from working within a bigger team and having access to training in new technologies and from the commercial expertise of Strategic Thought.
The Courts Sales and Accounts application runs on NT Servers, accessed via desktop PCs. The central database runs on Microsoft SQL Server and integrates information from Courts sales people, accounts and warehouses to provide fast, efficient order processing and delivery. Strategic Thought are developing the system architecture to support future E-commerce and in-store kiosk developments.
Richard Higgs, managing director of Strategic Thought concludes, “By focussing on the respective competencies of our two companies we have defined a model of working together that maximises the benefit to both the business and the end-user population. I believe this to be a very effective model for solution provision in the retail sector where performance and cost efficiency are vital.
