General Physics Improves Care for the Infirm and Elderly Tuesday 16 October 2001 PDF Print General Physics (GP), the market leading performance improvement company, is helping to ensure that the quality of care offered by carers in Yorkshire is amongst the best in the UK, by providing quality training. GP’s care sector experts have been working with management and staff at Bradford Independent Health Care’s (BIHC) nine retirement, nursing and specialist care residential homes to provide National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) training and assessment. The current project will make sure that many of BIHC’s 300 staff will have the NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications required to meet new government regulations [that 50% of carers have or be working towards a minumum NVQ Level 2 as set out in the National Minimum Standards set out in the Care Standards Act 2000] due to come into effect in 2005. GP’s training and assessment programme is also making a major contribution to the success of a larger initiative by BIHC management, which endeavours to provide consistently high levels of care for patients, whilst providing staff with clear career development plans. GP has a proven track record in delivering quality NVQ training and assessment, with its professional care assessors equipping learners with the skills and knowledge to provide the highest standards of client care. The GP care specialists also offer advice and expertise that will assist BIHC management and the individual candidates to select relevant elective elements of the NVQs that best suit the specific BIHC environment and individual goals. Alongside the care training, GP specialists also deliver Key Skills training which enables learners to be competent in communication, numeracy, IT and skills in improving personal performance - skills important in any professional setting. GP’s expertise in helping learners to achieve the Care NVQs will be vital in making certain that both care levels and client satisfaction across the BIHC homes remain consistently high. The implementaion and management of a structured development process at BIHC guarantees that staff receive on-going training and build greater confidence from the skills and knowledged gained as each element in the NVQ is achieved. BIHC’s Training Coordinator Molly Driver, says, ‘I’ve been delighted with the NVQ level 2 and 3 work which GP has provided for care staff in our homes so far. The NVQ training programme has had a noticable impact throughout the organisation, helping to boost staff morale and raise to new heights the standard of care we can offer our clients. ‘Training is only ever as good as the individual trainers, and GP’s specialist assessors have provided an excellent standard of training and assessment. In addition to reaching the statutory requirements, I’m hopeful that we can encourage key members of staff to embark on the NVQ Assessor “D” Units and Care Management training with GP in the not too distant future.’ GP Project Manager Sue Alston says, ‘We are delighted that BIHC has chosen GP to provide NVQ training to the group. Care NVQs are an excellent platform on which to build staff development processes and to maintain quality of client care at the highest standard. And, through this training programme, we are providing the best possible opportunities for BIHC to meet their legal obligations [to achieve the National Minimum Care Standards] well ahead of target.’ For more information contact Lyndon Johnson at Emmett and Smith Limited on tel: 020 7831 2999, fax 020 7831 2722, or by email firstname.lastname@example.org Notes to editor: GP is the principal operating subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as GPX.
