October 18, 2001 – Intec Telecom Systems, a leading worldwide provider of Operational Support Systems (OSS) for fixed, mobile and IP/next-generation networks, has announced that ITXC, the world’s largest wholesale Voice over IP (VoIP) provider, has gone into production with Intec’s Inter-mediatEΓ” platform for IP mediation. The solution was quickly and successfully integrated into the network with minimal risk, delivering accurate results from the first day of production. ITXC can now effectively bill for voice calls travelling across the company’s global ITXC.net VoIP network, which reaches 349 cities and 133 countries across the world.

Inter-mediatE, the market leader in convergent mediation, collects and aggregates all of the usage data from the ITXC network and transforms it into consistent records that ITXC can use to produce an accurate customer billing statement. The bulk of ITXC’s network traffic originates on a traditional voice switch, and travels through an IP telephony gateway, across the public Internet and through another IP telephony gateway to reach its final destination. Inter-mediatE’s sophisticated technology can support this complicated process, helping to identify any duplication of data and incorrect information resulting from misconfigured gateways and incomplete CDRs.

Flexibility is a critical feature within the Inter-mediatE software. A scripting language allows service providers such as ITXC to apply their own business rules to the mediation process. In ITXC’s case, Intec’s mediation system is set up to conduct filtering and duplicate record detection so that ITXC’s customers are billed accurately for only the calls they actually make. Inter-mediatE also feeds ITXC’s 7/24 network operations centre (NOC) with data for quality monitoring purposes. In addition, the solution facilitates network expansion through its scalability and its ability to protect downstream systems in the OSS environment from changes in network elements.
