Overland receives certification for SDLT line of Neo series tape libraries Thursday 18 October 2001 PDF Print OVERLAND'S NEO SERIES TAPE LIBRARIES EARN WIDESPREAD SOFTWARE INDUSTRY ACCEPTANCE Customers Have Compatibility for Industry-Leading Applications 18 October 2001. Overland Data, Inc. the market leader in mid-range tape automation solutions, has certified its Neo series tape libraries with a wide range of software vendors. Neo's LXN2000 and LXN4000 libraries establish new benchmarks in modular tape library design and high availability in tape automation. By delivering 24 TB capacity and an advanced feature set, Neo brings affordable, enterprise-level performance to both small and large operating environments. Each 10U-high LXN4000 tape library base module supports up to four drives and 52 media slots while each 5U-high LXN2000 library module supports one or two drives and 26 media slots. Each multi-module library system operates as a single virtual library, and may be supplied with either DLT8000 or Super DLTtape drives for optimal compatibility and performance. "Computer Associates is pleased to certify tape libraries that eliminate the connectivity bottleneck," said Philip Treide, vice president of marketing, Computer Associates. "We are excited about the Fibre-ready Neo Series tape library by Overland and its potential in serverless backup applications. We believe the Neo Series library and interconnectivity options, in combination with CA's BrightStor Enterprise Backup, will provide customers with flexible, high performance solutions." Other software companies participating in the certification of Overland's Neo series tape libraries include Legato, VERITAS, Tivoli, BakBone, CommVault, Syncsort, Quadratec, everStor and LiveVault. "Certification by the industry's leading software vendors is important because it speaks to the customer need for investment and technology protection," said Christopher Calisi, Overland CEO. "Certification means Neo can be easily integrated into a wide variety of existing networks and operating systems. This enables our customers to avoid massive capital expenditures and instead adopt a 'pay-as-you-grow' model of IT spending." "We are excited about Overland's new library, the Neo, for its increased throughput with the built-in Fibre bridge and the vast array of environments it excels in including SCSI, Fibre Channel, SANs, NDMP and serverless backup," said Winston Hait, senior product manager, Syncsort Inc. "The Neo represents a new level of reliability and connectivity that ensures that customers can effectively support their environments now and allows them to easily migrate to newer technologies as they become available." "Device interoperability and speed in a SAN environment are major concerns for our users. We are pleased that Overland has integrated a 2Gb internal Fibre Channel (FC) bridge into their Neo Series tape library architecture," said David West, CommVault vice president of business development. "Our CommVault Galaxy Data and storage management software will take advantage of the FC bridge's auto-sensing capability and library drive speed to provide easier data management and improve data availability." The Neo series libraries stand out from others on several fronts: · Non-stop operation--Neo's Distributed Robotic Architecture brings separate robotics to each module, eliminating the likelihood of a single point of failure. · Overland's patented LiveSwapT technology enables drives to be added or pulled without powering down or re-inventorying the entire system. · The Virtual Interface Architecture bays permit flexible connection to all types of SCSI, fibre channel and a variety of future interfaces. · Neo series LXN4000 and LXN2000 libraries have the first 1-2 Gb/s Fibre Channel direct connect option in the tape library industry, while continuing to also work with SCSI. · Neo series libraries contain their unique feature set within industry standard dimensions and specifications no customised racks or cumbersome modifications are necessary. Overland products are backed by the company's innovative Guaranteed Up Time Service (GUTST) warranty program ensuring 99 per cent uptime performance, the only guarantee of its kind in the industry. Neo also comes with Overland's standard three-year factory warranty. Availability The LXN2000 is currently shipping in volume. Volume production of the LXN4000 is planned for Q1 2002. - ends - About Overland Overland Data, Inc.
