UK TRAVEL SITES EXPERIENCE SEPTEMBER BOOST, NETVALUE REPORTS Monday 22 October 2001 PDF Print Despite fears of a slowdown in the travel industry, the number of visitors to travel and transport sites in the UK during September has increased, according to the latest research from Internet monitoring company NetValue. 4.8 million unique home Internet users visited a travel site in September, the busiest month of the year so far. Visitors to travel sites in the UK were up by 155,000 since August. By contrast, visitors to travel sites in most other European countries have seen a major decrease. In France, visitors were down by 326,000 since August and in Germany, visitors had decreased by 571,000. Although lastminute.com continues to be the most visited travel site, it is the budget airlines, easyjet.com and bookryanair.com, that have seen the biggest increase in visitor numbers. Visitors to easyjet.com have increased from 355,000 in August to 478,000 in September, with visitors to bookryanair.ie increasing from 173,000 to 300,000. Approximately one in five UK visitors to travel sites went on to make a secure connection, an indication that visitors are entering and transmitting their credit card details online.
