· IP mediation will support Macquarie’s fast-growing corporate and government IP-based data services

October 23, 2001 - Intec Telecom Systems, a major provider of telecoms Operations Support Systems (“OSS”), has signed a contract with Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications in Australia for Inter-mediatE, Intec’s convergent mediation system. The deal was won after a highly-competitive evaluation of other vendors, with Macquarie citing Intec’s proven capability in IP mediation, and support capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, as key selection criteria.

“We were immediately impressed by the quality of the Inter-mediatE product, and Intec’s ability to provide in-depth product support in our markets,” said Macquarie’s General Manager Next Generation Integrated Carrier Services, Glen Noble. “IP mediation is a relatively new field in Australia. We wanted a system that had a solid track record in IP mediation in sizable carriers, and a vendor with clear business stability.”

“The key to delivering superior customer service in today’s competitive marketplace, is the ability to effectively manage your networks, and that is what inter-mediatE helps us to do. It enables us to bring new products to market more quickly without disrupting service levels, and it means we can deliver up-to-the minute, highly detailed billing information to the customer,” he said.

Winner of COMNET/’s International Telecommunications Company of the Year Ovation Award for Business Services in 2000, Macquarie is a Next Generation integrated information technology and telecommunications carrier that provides a complete range of outsourced voice, data, and online solutions to corporate and government customers in Australia and Singapore.

Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart, Macquarie is a major user of IP technology from Lucent and Juniper. Inter-mediatE will allow Macquarie to collect and process IP traffic information from its high-speed ATM network, and pass it to its billing systems for customer invoice creation resulting in more detailed information for customers.

Macquarie, which has had a number of high-profile customer wins recently, including the Federal Government's multimillion dollar, two year Group 5 Data Carriage Services Contract, will benefit from the scalability of Inter-mediatE as its traffic volumes escalate, and from its user configurability, allowing it to add network equipment and new services without difficulty.

“Intec had to prove itself at the product level, and the competition was intense, from both major IP hardware providers and specialist IP-only mediation vendors. Macquarie’s selection of Inter-mediatE underlines our own belief that operators in today’s market want a proven, carrier-grade convergent mediation solution, and that vendor qualities such as local support and business stability are also vital criteria,” said Kevin Adams, Intec’s CEO.

Inter-mediatE is Intec’s carrier-grade real-time convergent mediation solution, used by over 100 major communications companies worldwide. Inter-mediatE allows customers to collect, process and deliver huge volumes of network usage information from both traditional (PSTN) and unswitched (IP) networks. Offering PTT and RBOC levels of performance and scalability, Inter-mediatE has been recently benchmarked to process in excess of 12 billion network records in a ten hour period, a result that exceeds the current processing requirements of Intec’s twenty largest customers combined.
