High performance backup and restore software platform supports
EMC Fastrax and Oracle
London, 23rd October, 2001 - Atempo, Inc. (formerly Quadratec Software)
today announced at that its Time Navigator(tm) software platform for
high-performance backup and restore services now supports the EMC
Fastrax(tm) data movement platform in an Oracle environment.
The integration of Time Navigator with EMC Fastrax results in a high
performance serverless back-up and restore solution that enables joint
customers to back-up large Oracle databases with no impact on the database
server, an essential requirement for today's enterprise environments.
Time Navigator for EMC Fastrax is one of the most advanced solutions on the
market for back-up of active online data to secondary storage. EMC Fastrax
accomplishes this without LAN or SAN bandwidth or application processor
resources to move the data. Time Navigator reduces back-up administration
and provides the most advanced approach for restoring Oracle databases. The
combination of Time Navigator and EMC Fastrax reduces the database backup
window to its minimum, resulting in the optimal solution for large and
critical database back-up.
"After joining the E-Infostructure Developers Programme, Atempo has worked
quickly to integrate its Time Navigator software with EMC Fastrax," said
Linda Wright, senior director of global alliances at EMC Corporation. "The
integration demonstrates EMC's commitment to leverage open application
programming interfaces and product strengths to deliver infrastructure
solutions that help customers meet current business challenges, such as
back-up and recovery of critical business information."
Time Navigator for EMC Fastrax key features and benefits include:
* Time Navigation(tm) for rapid restore of Oracle databases: Time
Navigation is a unique feature allowing rapid detection and restoration of
the corrupted or damaged parts of the database such as tablespaces, data
files, log files or control files, without having to restore the entire
database, which reduces the potential downtime.
* Unique backup-to-disk support: Time Navigator provides backup
capabilities to either an EMC Symmetrix® storage systems or Tape Library
Unit (TLU) for greater flexibility to the administrator in defining back-up
policies and the location of the back-up sets.
* Serverless backup solution, maximising network performance with
minimal impact to users and application performance.
* Support of data recovery via EMC Fastrax off-line restore module in
case of hardware failure.
* Disaster Recovery functionality: Time Navigator for EMC Fastrax
works in concert with EMC TimeFinder(tm) and SRDF(tm) to provide a robust,
reliable disaster recovery solution.
* Online backup for Oracle: the solution is designed for backing up
Oracle databases with no database downtime. It offers data management and
protection capabilities for Oracle "hot" backup, full database recovery or
advanced 'Surgical' restore.
* Library sharing between EMC Fastrax and other standard backup
servers: Time Navigator can seamlessly share the same library for backup and
restore operations for maximum hardware and software investment protection.
"As a member of EMC's E-Infostructure(tm) Developers Programme, Atempo has
been working with EMC to provide mutual customers with enterprise data and
storage management solutions," said David Swafford, vice president,
strategic alliances at Atempo. "The delivery of Atempo's Time Navigator for
EMC Fastrax further demonstrates our commitment to leverage our common
strengths to deliver a powerful solution alongside EMC that helps customers
meet the backup and restore challenge."
