Industrial strength enhancements in reliability, large message support and wireless messaging capability
cxtend SonicMQ’s messaging middleware leadership

24 October 2001 – The Progress Company, today introduced SonicMQ® 4.0, the next generation of the
award-winning messaging software for the reliable, scalable and secure transport of business-critical
information throughout the extended enterprise. This release extends SonicMQ’s leadership in the
message-oriented middleware (MOM) market by providing increased interoperability with existing applications
and emerging architectures, support for wireless messaging, large messages and more industrial-strength
capabilities.

Progress subsidiary, Sonic Software, designs and develops SonicMQ in the USA. In Europe, SonicMQ is
distributed exclusively by the Progress Company.

“Working closely with customers, Sonic Software identified ways to improve SonicMQ, while increasing the range of the messaging solutions to better support mesaging requirements today,” said Danny Goodall, Sonic Business

Unit Manager at Progress EMEA. “SonicMQ provides unmatched reliability, security and scalability for
businesses that need basic messaging middleware, while it also extends to meet the needs of complex global
connectivity.”

SonicMQ 4.0
Based on the Java Message Service (JMS) specification, SonicMQ supports Internet standards and is the first
JMS technology product to implement the standard, robust, transactional capabilities that are required by the
Java™ 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3 specification.

Secure HTTP Support - SonicMQ enables secure, seamless interoperability between JMS and HTTP-based clients.
This allows developers to “plug and play” with third-party technologies based on industry standards.
Industrial Strength Capabilities - SonicMQ combines multi-part message streaming with guaranteed delivery for
any size message, including very large messages such as XML document or CAD files, the ability to scale to
highest-speed industry transactions with “zero data loss,” and per message encryption to ensure maximum
security.
Reliability - SonicMQ is the most reliable Java messaging product available and the only JMS product to offer
client local persistence that guarantees client-to-broker message delivery and expands client resilience to
network outages.

About SonicMQ
SonicMQ provides highly scalable, standards-based Internet middleware that enables the guaranteed and secure
delivery of business-critical data between applications across the distributed enterprise or among companies
for B2B exchange. SonicMQ natively supports Web standards and the Java Message Service (JMS) specification,
which provides a standard set of interfaces and messaging models. SonicMQ is fully compliant with the Sun JAVA 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standard and includes a XAResource API to guarantee end-to-end transactional
integrity of mission-critical information. Additionally, SonicMQ features patent-pending Dynamic Routing
Architecture™ (DRA), providing guaranteed message delivery, and unparalleled performance and scalability.
Sonic Software is today’s leading vendor of technology based on JMS standards, and licenses its technology to
some of the industry’s largest J2EE technology-based application server vendors, including HP, Borland
Software and IONA. SonicMQ has also been selected as the JMS-based messaging infrastructure of choice for some of today’s most demanding messaging environments such as GE Global eXchange Services (GXS), Commerce One’s
MarketSiteTM, the e-marketplace operating environment, and WRQ® Verastream Integration Broker™.

SonicMQ is distributed by the Progress Company in the EMEA region.
