PROGRESS STEPS IN TO PROVIDE MANAGED HOSTING SERVICES TO ASP PARTNERS WITH 7GLOBAL Thursday 25 October 2001 PDF Print SLOUGH (25 October, 2001) — Progress Software has announced that it has selected 7GLOBAL as a preferred Managed Hosting Partner in the UK under its ASPenSM (Application Service Provider Enablement) Program. Following the acquisition of managed hosting services provider Allegrix in the USA in June this year, the move marks a strengthening of Progress’s commitment to helping its Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) develop the widest range of delivery options for their applications. Mark Gilliland, UK channel sales manager, Progress Software said: “Increasingly we see software as a service that is delivered either via an ASP or some other form of managed hosting service. Following the collapse of several hosting providers and withdrawal from the market by companies, such as Vistorm, we are aware of the difficulty our UK ASP partners have in finding managed hosting partners with the requisite understanding and infrastructure to deliver the more complex integrated solutions, they require. We are confident that 7Global adds great value to our partners’ solutions.” Progress ASPs/ISVs will contract directly with Progress for the ASPen Managed Service that will include 7’s Digital Delivery Service™. Several Progress ISVs, such as OpenAccounts, have expressed a desire for Progress to act as a single source for ASP services to simplify commercial arrangements. Progress will share its Application Center™ technology, available under the ASPen Program, with its ISVs and 7Global. Application Center™, developed by ASPen Managed Services, avoids the high cost of emulation products such as Citrix, to provide a thin client Windows interface in a browser to achieve high performance levels of remotely deployed applications. Paul Dean Business Development Director for 7 GLOBAL commented, “This a significant step in providing managed hosting services for ISV's. Our agreement with Progress provides an alternative way for their applications to be delivered and it potentially opens new revenue opportunities for them. By partnering with 7, Progress and indeed their ISV community have access to a sophisticated IT infrastructure providing end users with a secure, scaleable and reliable, portfolio of services all at a predictable cost. This service empowers the ISV to remain focused on their core competencies rather than the chore of managing increasingly complex IT systems.” “The pooling of 7GLOBAL and Progress knowledge of delivering software as a service, from the development, integration and infrastructure perspectives,” says Mark Gilliland, “provides a foundation for collaboration-commerce, where companies share information and collaborate with any company, anywhere in the world.” About 7 7 is the UK’s first ‘Business Services Aggregator’, a new breed of service provider that combines the latest computing software and hardware, the finest IT talent, systems integration skills and networking capabilities. These services are delivered from remote Solution Data Centres to businesses via public or private networks. By partnering with 7, organisations have access to a sophisticated IT infrastructure at a predictable cost. This service empowers clients of all sizes to remain focused on their core competencies rather than the chore of managing increasingly complex IT systems.
