An SMS technology advance by platforms and services specialist Telsis is set to let mobile operators open up new revenue streams and create compelling differentiation.

Readily integrated with existing network infrastructure, and utilising routing technology already proven in voice systems, Telsis Intelligent SMS Routing supports high-volume and instant response text services while leaving existing infrastructure to handle conventional store and forward messaging.

Routing messages intelligently based on content, destination and sender identity, allows operators to offer service providers high-capacity, one-number, direct connection access to mobile users anywhere in the world, irrespective of home network.

Mass broadcast capability means messages from stock price alerts to TV soap updates and football results can be readily sent to millions of handsets. In turn, mobile phone users can participate in real time events such as SMS televoting and competitions – all without impacting legacy SMS capacity.

Programmable for maximum flexibility, the Telsis advance incorporates white/black-listing and allows reverse billing for both post-pay and pre-pay users. “While the world holds its breath for 3G, we’re showing what can be achieved with today’s 2G networks,” says Telsis chairman Jeff Wilson. For the first time, operators can attract and keep service providers with a one-number-reaches-all offer, and to work with them to deploy a whole new generation of SMS products without throughput limitations.”

The Intelligent SMS Router uses standard Telsis Ocean platforms which are in service with fixed and mobile network operators around the world. User-programmability enables operators to rapidly vary and customise their services to meet market demands.
