Travel InfoSystems Gives A Helping Hand To London’s Transport
Museum’s Learning Centre

Travel InfoSystems, the travel software solution experts, today announced it has donated the TubePlanner solution to the JOURNEYS initiative at London’s Transport Museum’s Learning Centre. The Learning Centre was launched today with a special party at London’s Transport Museum.

Developed by Cambridge Training and Development (CTAD) and London's Transport Museum, JOURNEYS is an interactive multi-media resource, for adults and young people with basic skills needs. JOURNEYS covers a selection of skills from Entry Level 3 and Level 1 of the adult literacy and adult numeracy core curricula in an entertaining way, based around ideas and images from London's Transport Museum.

JOURNEYS not only provides realistic and engaging practice material, but goes one step further and encourages learners to follow that up by exploring travel information on the web. TubePlanner is incorporated into JOURNEYS so that learners can gain confidence in using this type of resource. Learners and travelers on the Underground can also explore TubePlanner on the London Underground website - www.thetube.com.

TubePlanner is an easy-to-use graphical journey planner for anyone using the London Underground. It provides instant journey times at a click of a mouse and includes useful features like ‘Smart Search’ enabling travellers to enter departure and destination points by station name, street name or even famous landmarks.

TubePlanner’s unique data store offers all the information an Underground traveller could need, from ticket prices to the time needed to walk between connecting lines. Maps and printable itinerary for any journey across the world’s oldest underground train network can be easily produced.

Terry Hiles, Managing Director of Travel InfoSystems, comments, “We noticed the need for a travel planner that enables people to easily navigate their way around London using the Underground System. TubePlanner was the result.”

Hiles adds, “We were only too happy to give TubePlanner to London’s Transport Museum’s Learning Centre and CTAD, for JOURNEYS. We fully support such an initiative. At the end of the day, helping people find their way around through accurate and reliable travel information, and enabling them to get to their destination on time is what Travel InfoSystems is all about.”

The JOURNEYS resource enables learners of all ages to practice and reinforce their literacy and numeracy skills as they make a virtual journey across contemporary London by tube, by bus or on foot. CTAD created a resource that is user-friendly, fun and has clear learning objectives aligned to the new national standards for adult basic skills that combines fun and learning at the same time.

London’s Transport Museum has the best collection of urban transport material in the world and is experienced in the production of web resources. CTAD has been producing highly acclaimed resources for conventional and new media for 20 years, including a number of popular adult basic skills CD-ROMs such as the widely used Numbers Disc and the award-winning New Reading Disc.

The JOURNEYS resource will be available in the Museum's Learning Centre, which is open to the public every day. TubePlanner is available direct from Travel InfoSystems on 020 7428 1288 or enquiries@travelinfosystems.com, or check its web site at www.travelinfosystems.com.
