Vector to integrate MetaQuest’s PC diagnostics technology into its PC management software

Tamworth, UK – 1st November 2001 – UK based Vector Networks Technologies Ltd. has acquired MetaQuest Software Inc., a Canadian developer of Internet-based PC support and issue tracking software.

PC management specialist, Vector Networks Ltd., the UK-based development and marketing member of the Vector Technologies group, has built a customer base in over 35 countries with its multi-function LANutil PC management suite and the advanced remote control product, PC-Duo. MetaQuest has focused on Internet-based online diagnostics and self-repair, principally for the US market.

The two companies are now looking for immediate synergy through integration of their technology, with MetaQuest’s Triage on-line PC diagnostics software being built into Vector’s existing products by early 2002. With a customer base of over 5000 corporates and approaching 2.5 million PC installations, Vector’s country partner channel is looking to boost revenues and increase coverage of its customers’ PC management needs as a result of the acquisition.

The existing MetaQuest products will also be offered in their own right to the country partner network and to Vector Networks’ base of US resellers. The Triage OEM range of modules can be customised to enable software vendors to provide automated web-based support and self-healing of their own applications.

As well as the Triage technology, MetaQuest has developed a fully web-based issue tracking system, Census, which was initially aimed at software development teams to support registration, escalation, tracking and resolution of development problems. Census is a natural fit for Vector’s country partners, given that the vast majority of Vector’s larger corporate customers have their own in-house software development teams.

Ray Clethro, chairman of Vector Networks comments on the acquisition:
“This acquisition highlights Vector’s aggressive strategic development plan and confirms our status as a leading player in the global desktop systems management market,” he said. “Bringing MetaQuest into the Vector group expands resources on the key fronts of product, technology, skills and global market awareness. In turn, this enables the group to set more aggressive targets for product introductions, revenues and profits through 2002. With much synergy and little overlap to deal with, the acquisition is expected to be revenue generating within weeks,” he continued.

“The Vector acquisition is an exciting opportunity for MetaQuest to offer its products to the worldwide market that Vector serves,” said MetaQuest’s co-founder Tony DiCaprio. “In particular, MetaQuest’s capabilities in the areas of issue management, diagnostics and self-healing are a natural extension and ideal complement to the market-leading remote control, software distribution and asset management capabilities Vector provides.”

UK-based Vector Networks specialises in developing Windows NT/2000 based products for desktop management. The company services approximately 5000 customers in over 35 countries with software installed on nearly 2.5 million PCs.
