ServerProtect for EMC Celerra to Protect Celerra File Server
for secure storage

Marlow, England—5 November 2001—Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet security solutions, has announced its participation in the EMC E-Infostructure™ Developers Program, enabling Trend Micro to provide solutions for protecting information storage from the threat of computer viruses. As a result of the alliance, Trend Micro announced that its file server virus protection software, Trend Micro ServerProtectä Version 5.3 for EMC Celerra™, will seamlessly interoperate with EMC’s Celerra File Server to secure data within enterprise storage environments from computer viruses.

“Customers need to protect their most valued assets and need advanced tools to ensure that their data is not corrupted by viruses,” said Don Swatik, Vice President of Alliances and Information Sciences at EMC. “Through the E-Infostructure Developers Program, Trend Micro ServerProtect’s interoperability with EMC’s Celerra File Server will secure storage networks and provide a greater choice for our customers.”

The EMC E-Infostructure Developers Program (EIDP) is part of EMC’s overall E-Infostructure initiative aimed at enabling software developers and Independent Software Vendors to integrate their solutions with EMC information storage and software. Through the EIDP, Trend Micro has access to a wide range of EMC’s programming interfaces, enabling seamless interoperability that combines the technology expertise of both companies to better protect and leverage customers’ critical information infrastructures.

According to IDC, the market for network attached storage (NAS) is growing. Worldwide NAS revenues are projected to grow at a 65% compound annual growth rate between 2000 and 2004. With today’s businesses running applications ranging from customer relationship management to enterprise resource planning, the demand for large-scale storage systems continues to grow, as does the demand for antivirus software to protect the integrity of that highly critical stored data.

To preserve data integrity within a NAS system, the data and content files need to be scanned for viruses as they are updated. This prevents a virus-infected file from either entering the storage system
or infecting large amounts of data on the system through an unsuspecting user’s computer, which could result in corruption of storage services and data management.

EMC’s Celerra File Server is a dedicated network file server running software optimised for sharing information over networks. Trend Micro ServerProtect for EMC Celerra is designed to filter out viruses and malicious code at the storage server level before they have a chance to spread through shared documents and infect other computing environments. ServerProtect provides comprehensive virus protection for the enterprise by including protection for data stored on EMC’s Celerra File Server. It features multiple domain management, automated, incremental pattern file updates, event reporting and configuration that can be controlled through a remote web-based or Windows-based console. ServerProtect is compatible with many industry-standard network management tools.

“Working with EMC, a leader in information storage systems and software, is a cornerstone of Trend Micro’s commitment to supporting secure data storage clusters,” said Charlie Stuart, director of Alliances for Trend Micro. “Maintaining the integrity of the massive amounts of data currently being stored is a critical piece of a total virus protection plan. This is just the beginning of a long and exciting partnership with EMC and we are looking forward to future endeavors.”
