Enterasys Adds HSSI and Serial WAN, ATM (OC-3), and FDDI to Award-Winning X-Pedition Routing Platform
November 5, 2001 – Enterasys Networks, Inc. has taken multilayer routing for enterprise networks to the next level by unveiling a series of new modules for its award-winning X-Pedition series of modular Layer 3-7 routers. These modules bring a variety of new technologies to Enterasys’ flagship Gigabit Ethernet router, the X-Pedition ER16, to enhance the availability and performance of voice, video, data and other advanced applications across wide area networks (WAN) and local area networks (LAN).
Available now, these next-generation modules include ATM/OC-3, WAN (HSSI), WAN (serial), FDDI and higher capacity Fast Ethernet fiber modules, with each offering a comprehensive set of features for security, traffic prioritisation and management. When combined with its current Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet offerings, these new modules give the ER16 the most complete range of technology and media connectivity offerings in the industry.
“With the addition of these new modules for the X-Pedition product line, Enterasys reaffirms its commitment to the enterprise customer by offering a full spectrum of modules, from aggressively priced legacy technologies to the latest in Gigabit Ethernet. Many vendors are only paying lip service to the enterprise customer, offering no improvements in legacy solutions and only focusing on the newest solutions. Enterasys’ product strategy backs up its mission statement – no if’s, and’s or but’s about it,” said Lauri Vickers, Manager of LAN networking at Cahners In-Stat Group.
With the rising use in videoconferencing, webcasts, corporate intranets, e-commerce and other network-enabled communications, enterprises will continue to require more performance, efficiency, control, security and high-availability networking for their essential applications, whether it’s within a corporate or campus LAN, or around the world using a wide area network. The new Enterasys’ X-Pedition modules enable enterprise networks to deliver these critical network services and features to support their applications, regardless of location or the technologies that they choose to deploy.
“Enterasys’ new offerings for its X-Pedition ER16 enable us to offer a wide range of connectivity options to our enterprise customers, especially customers with wide area networking requirements. This really complements the ER16’s Gigabit and Fast Ethernet LAN capabilities, and ensures flexibility and a long product lifecycle for the end user,” said Roy Appelbaum, vice president and general manager of product marketing, networking and storage at Tech Data Corporation.
“These new modules bring all the benefits of the ER16 out to WAN environments, and offer customers excellent investment protection and a great migration path to new technologies – all in one platform,” said Bill Naas, vice president and general manager of routing products at Enterasys Networks. “This type of integrated solution gives customers the option to deploy any combination of technologies needed to meet their particular needs, while still benefiting from the security, high-performance, and command and control that you would expect from an Enterasys routing solution.”
