GMTV launches FRIACO virtual ISP service with NeonHippo Monday 12 November 2001 PDF Print WAKE UP TO A GREAT DEAL ON UNMETERED INTERNET ACCESS NeonHippo Rolls Out FRIACO Service For GMTV – Britain’s Biggest Morning TV Programme Birmingham, UK November 12th: NeonHippo, a B2B Internet Service Provider offering unmetered Internet access services to third party ISPs, has today announced that www.gmtv.co.uk - the on-line arm of the UK’s number one breakfast television programme - has signed up to use the company’s FRIACO (fixed rate internet access NAME NAME) service as part of its newly rolled out vISP programme. www.gmtv.co.uk currently has 170,000 regular users. “GMTV already has a well established on-line presence,” explains Greg Rudd, CEO of NeonHippo. “By becoming a virtual ISP, it is offering its loyal user base an even better service. “ www.gmtv.co.uk launched its vISP service early in November. There are two services; PayAsYouGo which is charged at local rate calls, and GMTV 24-7, which is the FRIACO service - unlimited Internet access at £14.99 per month. However, to celebrate the launch, a special rate of £10 per month for the first 3 months is being offered. According to Margaret Sawdon, head of www.gmtv.co.uk, there are a number of reasons why GMTV decided to launch its vISP service. “One of the main reasons for the vISP service was to expand the GMTV brand to our database of unique users who trust our TV brand and use our services regularly.” Sawdon also cites revenue streams as another important factor. “www.gmtv.co.uk is keen to look beyond banner ads and sponsorship for additional sources of revenue. Another partner, Opera Telecom, has provided many new revenue streams by working with us on a dropdialler service, which is used to charge for entry to TV-based competitions on the website. “It also provides a large SMS microsite, which is doing well, particularly with ringtones and voicemail. Launching our own-branded vISP with NeonHippo was the logical next step.” A key incentive for www.gmtv.co.uk users to sign up to the vISP service is a monthly competition where one subscriber is selected to come to the GMTV London Studios and watch the programme be transmitted live from 0600am to 0925am. They then get to meet the presenters (Eamonn Holmes and Fiona Phillips), have a tour of GMTV’s offices and an extended session with GMTV's Web Team. “GMTV has shown that it’s at the forefront of integrating new media technologies and opportunities with existing products and business programmes,” concludes Rudd. “It realises the power of a strong brand on-line and, with the vISP service, understands how such a brand can be maximised to give consumers quality products and services while increasing revenue and awareness for the company. I look forward to working with GMTV over the coming months to enhance the vISP offering.” GMTV is Britain's leading award-winning breakfast broadcaster, watched by six million people a day. www.gmtv.co.uk was launched in February 2000 by the Prime Minister Tony Blair, live on-air. The site is targeted mainly at females (78% of its users) and 62% are aged between 25 and 44. 62% have a household income of more than £20,000.
