New IDC Report Shows iKey Holds 35 percent of Fast Growing USB Token Market

A recent report on authentication and biometric technologies, “Hardware and Biometrics Authentication Part 2: The Fall Software Sequel,” from IDC, Framingham, Mass., shows that the iKey, from Rainbow eSecurity, a Rainbow Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: RNBO) company, is the world’s leading USB Web authentication token with a 35 percent share of the million market in 2000. This market is expected to reach 6.6 million by 2005. Rainbow eSecurity is a leading solutions provider of digital content and transaction security for the Internet and eCommerce.

According to IDC, Rainbow’s share of the USB authentication token market accounted for 35 percent or .1 million of the estimated million market in 2000. IDC predicts the USB token market could reach 6.6 million by 2005 as volume sales and deployment accelerate the adoption of this security form factor.

“IDC sees the potential for USB tokens for network authentication taking off in the next few years,” said Charles Kolodgy, research manager, Internet security, IDC. “IDC believes that Rainbow’s investment in product development, engineering and marketing for USB tokens well positions their iKey authentication token to be a leading product in this growing market segment.”

“The iKey represents our fastest growing product and as more organisations place business-critical data and applications on the Web, we believe that iKey is well positioned to provide users with the two factor authentication and access control,” said Shawn Abbott, president, Rainbow eSecurity.
