ServerProtect acknowledged for its outstanding virus-detection capabilities

Marlow, England. – 14th November 2001 - Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC, TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, has announced that Trend Micro ServerProtectä received the Virus Bulletin 100% award for its virus-detection capabilities. Virus Bulletin tests are widely recognised within the antivirus industry and are key indicators of the effectiveness of a vendor’s antivirus solution.

The November 2001 test extensively examined 21 of the industry’s Windows NT antivirus products. The Virus Bulletin 100% logo is awarded to products that detect currently circulating or “in–the-wild” viruses, as tracked by the WildList Organisation, the industry’s standard for virus testing. Both manual or on-demand scanning, and automatic or on-access scanning are done to ensure antivirus solutions can detect viruses under a wide variety of conditions.

“Virus Bulletin is one of the most respected, independent antivirus testing organisations in the world,” said Oscar Chang, executive vice president of Global Security Response for Trend Micro. “Virus Bulletin’s findings confirm our key role in providing powerful and reliable antivirus solutions. Trend Micro is backed by one of the world’s largest antivirus research teams, and is committed to keeping our customers’ networks protected from current and future virus threats.”

Virus Bulletin's comparative tests are extremely stringent and typically focus on virus detection rates, scanning speeds, and performance overhead of on-access or resident scanning components. The viruses on the WildList Organisation's lists are acknowledged as causing real-world virus incidents and doing so in more than just one or two isolated locations.

ServerProtect provides comprehensive virus scanning for an organisation’s file servers. The solution includes Trend Micro’s award-winning scan engine, which is standard across the company’s product line and incorporates heuristic-based scanning techniques along with pattern-based virus detection. By incorporating a standard scan engine across its product line, Trend Micro guarantees its customers the same superior virus detection capabilities regardless of what Trend Micro antivirus solution they implement.

Trend Micro’s family of centrally controlled security products covers every possible access point on the network, from the Internet gateway, to the file server, email server, and the desktop PC, forming a powerful, multi-layered defense against harmful content. By protecting information that flows throughout the network, Trend Micro allows its customers to stop viruses and other malicious content at a central point before they have a chance to spread to the desktop.
