PETAH TIKVA, ISRAEL, November 14, 2001-- Lightscape Networks, an ECI Telecom company (ECI Telecom: NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECIL) and international leader in optical networking, today announced that ntl, Europe’s leading broadband service company will be deploying its enhanced XDM™ intelligent optical platform with 10Gbps capability. According to the single architecture approach, the XDM supplies both transparent 10Gbps transponders and 10Gbps parts to the matrix. ntl will use the XDM to provide high speed connectivity between its UK backbone network and other carrier networks. Lightscape Networks’ XDM currently provides ntl with a high-speed IP interconnect with affiliate communications and information services providers, as well as an easy migration path to optical services through its single platform architecture.

ntl, which provides broadband services to over 76,000 UK businesses and 20 million residential customers across Europe, is the first UK operator to take advantage of the XDM’s new 10 Gigabit interface to carry IP traffic for business users. Lightscape Networks’ XDMs will initially be deployed across two separate high-speed connections between ntl and other operators London based networks, serving to further strengthen the infrastructure ntl has in place to provide internet connections to other carriers. The main customer benefits include the ability to offer unmatched service levels for a range of networks services, resulting in reduced wait times for net surfing and increased internet reliability for business customers.

Gary Allden, head of media and marketing at ntl said, “The ongoing development of the ntl network with leading edge solutions that enable us to provide our business customers with the service guarantees they demand is critical. The XDM provides industry-leading technology today within a flexible, cost-effective platform that is also designed to take care of the networking needs of tomorrow.”

Lightscape Networks’ XDM platform is designed to provide an effortless route to next-generation broadband services and multi-service support, within a single data-aware device, offering carriers with one of the widest capacity ranges on today’s market, within a single shelf. Built from the ground up to solve bottlenecks in the network edge, XDM offers operators a cost-effective way of connecting multi-service broadband subscribers to the transport backbone without requiring a massive initial investment in numerous discrete systems (DWDM multiplexers, SDH/SONET ADMs, edge data switching and optical switching). XDM is the only multi-function metro platform for voice, video and data that scales cost effectively to 10Gbps, for both ring and mesh architectures.

“We have been a supplier of equipment to ntl for the past five years and are proud to be a factor behind ntl’s significant growth in that time,” stated Eran Dariel, president and CEO of Lightscape Networks. “It is a great pleasure to be able to work with one of Europe’s largest broadband companies as they prepare to make next-generation internet services available to their customers.”
