Platform Computing Teams with IBM to Provide Powerful Linux Clustering Solution

Platform Computing, the leader in distributed computing software, has today announced support for the IBM eServer Cluster 1300. Providing customers a quick and easy way to implement Linux solutions for e-business, the new IBM eServer Cluster 1300 is the industry's first pre-packaged Linux cluster, a massively powerful system that integrates best-of-breed components into a single, complete package, making it an ideal platform for Platform LSF workload management software.

The combination of Platform LSF software with the IBM eServer 1300 provides customers with a powerful, highly-available cluster solution for the demanding world of mission-critical workloads. With Platform LSF software, organisations implementing clusters will be able to process tasks more efficiently, complete workloads faster, and increase user productivity. Platform LSF also provides proactive monitoring and reporting tools that deliver constant, up-to-date information about the state of the cluster environment.

“The new IBM eServer Cluster 1300 is a powerful platform for our industry-leading Platform LSF workload management software solutions,” said Michael Sharma, vice president, business development, Platform Computing. “With the combination of the IBM eServer Cluster 1300 and Platform LSF, organisations can increase their cluster availability and maximize their IT investment by optimising enterprise computing resources.”

Platform LSF software provides workload management in distributed network-based environments. It improves productivity and reduces time to market by increasing network processing capacity by distributing, scheduling, monitoring and administering workloads across a wide range of hardware and software. Using Platform LSF, users can transparently access an enterprise’s distributed computing resources, including its applications, across clusters of disparate computers, servers and workstations to complete their work faster.

IBM's eServer x330 and x342 Intel-based servers, running Red Hat Linux 7.1, supply the processing muscle for the eServer cluster 1300. Up to 1024 servers can be harnessed together with IBM's cluster and file management system, taken from the renowned IBM SP supercomputer. The SP first gained fame in 1997 when it defeated chess champion Garry Kasparov in a history-making chess match.

Platform’s Solutions

Platform software solutions ensure the availability and optimisation of computing resources, resulting in increased efficiency, higher productivity and a shorter time to market for products and services. Platform develops three lines of distributed computing software solutions: Workload Management with Platform LSF, a set of software products that intelligently manages work across heterogeneous environments; Resource Management with Platform SiteAssure, which monitors distributed resources and services and automates management actions to increase application and service availability; and Performance Management with Platform Analyzer, a web-based reporting solution that provides insight into workload, system performance and distributed resources for better decision making.
