Distribution agreement extends F5 products into another well-established and experienced global channel; Expands Enterasys’ Layer 4-7 solutions for the enterprise
November 15, 2001 -- F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) products, and Enterasys Networks, Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a leader in enterprise networking solutions, announced that they have entered into an OEM license and distribution agreement. Under this agreement, which is effective immediately, Enterasys will integrate F5’s iTCM software into its switch-routing products, and has immediate rights to sell and distribute F5’s full suite of products. Enterasys is the first networking vendor to integrate F5’s software into one of its own product lines.
This agreement further enhances F5’s reach into the enterprise as Enterasys develops wired and wireless solutions exclusively tailored for enterprise-class customers. Enterasys broadens and enhances its portfolio of secure, high-availability routing and switching solutions by gaining access to market-leading software that provides a complete and unified solution for the distribution, delivery and control of traffic, content and applications.
“Enterasys’ X-Pedition switch-routers are based on a unique combination of hardware and software that offers high-availability, increased performance, enhanced capacity, greater control, security and the investment protection needed to manage today’s rapidly evolving networks,” said Bill Naas, Vice President and General Manager of Routing Products at Enterasys Networks. “Integrating F5’s market-leading iTCM software will offer an ideal complement to our solutions by providing vital features that enable enterprise networks to scale and maximize uptime through innovative Layer 7 traffic management capabilities. F5’s iControl API will also serve our customers well by providing a means to add intelligence and communication between applications and the network.”
Enterasys has signed an object code license agreement for F5’s award-winning software, including BIG-IP, 3 DNS, GLOBAL-SITE, and SEE-IT brand products that provide intelligent management and highly granular control over IP traffic, applications and content.
“The rising use of e-commerce and web-based applications in enterprise networks will drive increased demand for load-balancing and content networking solutions in the coming years. The Enterasys-F5 partnership combines Enterasys’ X-Pedition Layer 3-4 switch-routers and F5’s Layer 7 load balancing products to deliver a high-performance, multilayer solution that can effectively prioritise network traffic at the application level,” said Lucinda Borovick, Program Manager, IDC.
Starting immediately, Enterasys will build F5’s BIG-IP and 3-DNS advanced Layer 7 load balancing functionality into a module for its X-Pedition line of high-performance multilayer switch-routers. Enterasys will leverage F5’s open iControl API (application programming interface) to integrate F5’s software within its products, ensuring secure communication between the two companies technologies. iControl will give Enterasys’ management software seamless control over F5’s software that will be integrated into the X-Pedition router.
“Integration of F5’s award-winning BIG-IP and 3DNS software into Enterasys’ X-Pedition switch-routers will deliver significant advantages to the market by creating a robust solution that provides full Layer 2-7 functionality, from two industry leaders,” said Tom Pettigrew, vice president of OEM and Channel Sales at F5 Networks. “Enterasys’ customers, Global 2000 organizations, are at the forefront of deploying next-generation IP-based applications and services, which require specialized handling, high-availability security and fast performance. F5 offers the ultimate solution to provide all the intelligent traffic handing required to deliver these next-generation enterprise applications over the Internet or any IP-based network.”
Enterasys’ Matrix line of modular switches and X-Pedition line of modular, multilayer switch-routers combine award-winning performance with a full set of advanced features to provide secure, high-availability networks that meet the requirements of enterprise customers. Enterasys once again ranked number one in market share in the modular Layer 3 switching market according to Dell’Oro Group’s recent “Q2 Ethernet Switch Report.”
