PC Manufacturer Implements ShowShifter Personal Entertainment Manager On Its Next Generation PCs

Home Media Networks Ltd, developer of personal entertainment manager software that allows the user to watch, record and time shift (pause) TV, play DVD videos and listen to MP3 music files through one interface, today announced that it has signed an OEM licensing agreement with ShowShifter will become an integral element of's home PC offering, being shipped initially on its upcoming Alura and Axis personal video recorder (PVR) PCs.

PC and peripheral manufacturers see Home Media Networks technology, ShowShifter, as a significant value added product, which can facilitate sales of their products. has already dipped its toe into the integrated home entertainment market with its Movie range of home computers, which allow video editing on a PC. Through its release of its Alura and Axis home PVRs later this month, is placing its confidence in the PVR market and the increasing convergence of TVs and PCs. will be marketing both these products containing the ShowShifter functionality to the student market, amongst others. These products are easily transported and are well suited for use in student rooms.

“We looked at installing other entertainment managers on the market, but found these to be nowhere near as powerful or user friendly as Home Media Networks’ Showshifter,” explained marketing director, Bob Garrett. “It is an ideal addition to any PC and opens up an exciting range of new features for consumers.”

Showshifter is a pioneering software application that merges broadcast video, digital stored video, DVD video, and CD/MP3 music files into a seamless application that can be controlled from a remote control. Through its unique FarView technology, media can be interacted with from a comfortable distance, banishing the need to sit with a keyboard directly in front of the screen.

“PC manufacturers are looking to continue to grow the PC market, particularly in the home by taking the PC into new areas with additional value to the user,” comments Home Media Networks CEO, John Croft. “Up until recently, the PC sold to the home user has been broadly similar to the PC sold to the business user. This approach has worked to a certain extent, but PC manufacturers are beginning to realise they can sell many more units if they add more entertainment features such as ShowShifter to their machines.”

“One of our main strengths is our ability to lead the PC market with the latest technology and meet consumer needs with innovative and award winning products,” continued Garrett. “The other PC/TVs on the market are very much PCs trying to be a TV or vice versa, thus scaling down certain functions. believes that with ShowShifter we can allow the consumers to enjoy media through their PC without compromising on any of the functionality that they have with their existing media ‘stack’.”
