The phenomenal success of Harry Potter has hit the Internet, according to the latest results from NetValue, a global leader in Internet intelligence.
Britons flocked to harrypotter.warnerbros.co.uk during October, with a recorded 310,000 unique home Internet users visiting the website prior to the film release. Fans of the popular books spent on average 18.2 minutes on the official website.
Surprisingly, only 20 per cent of visitors to the Harry Potter website were aged 14 and under, 40 per cent were aged between 35-49. 57 per cent of visitors were women.
The popularity of Harry Potter has also contributed to the surge in visitors to other film sites, up from 1.7 million unique visitors in September to 2.1 million in October, demonstrating the importance of having a vibrant website to promote movie releases.
In comparison to other film websites, Star Wars’ official website experienced 165,000 visitors in the UK, while other blockbuster releases, including Pokemon, Jurassic Park III, Shrek and Lord of the Rings experienced significantly less visitors than on the Harry Potter website.

Good news for British retailer, tesco.com, which has entered the top 25 most visited domains for the first time. 1.3 million unique users visited the retailer during October, which equates to 9.1 per cent of all home Internet users.
Another British success story, friendsreunited.co.uk, continues to go from strength to strength. The reunion site for old school friends has become the 18th most visited site in the UK with 1.9 million unique visitors, 13 per cent of the home Internet population.
