Abattia Group Limited, a UK-based specialist in Membership Relationship Management (MRM), today announced that it has raised £1/2 million in second round funding from new investors and existing shareholders.

Abattia’s web-based MRM software applications enable interactive peer-to-peer and community relationship management. This enables organisations to bring together and hold together their membership bases, associations or communities. The company’s solutions will be aimed at membership organisations and associations in four vertical sectors: corporate, club, academic and charity. Abattia also provides high quality, value-added MRM consultancy services.

A new offshoot of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) market, the potential size of Abattia’s annual MRM market is estimated at over £1.2 billion in Europe alone. According to analysts Gartner Group, future CRM will be about supporting all the pieces in CRM, not just the customer. The analysts forecast that by 2006, the focus in CRM will be more on employees, partners and influencers.

“Traditional CRM packages are not suitable for the needs of MRM, as they neglect the peer-to-peer aspect that is a key bonding element in membership communities,” said Benjamin Van Every, Managing Director and founder. “Demand is rising for organisations to provide trusted online forums for member-to-member interaction and we expect such ‘real estate’ to become increasingly valuable. Our products provide the aggregation platforms for these coherent, user-driven communities.”

Initially focused on opportunities in the UK independent school sector, the investment will be used to launch the company and its flagship product, webALUMNUS, a web-based alumni relationship management platform, currently due for roll-out in Q1 2002. Beta users include Dulwich College, Winchester College, Latymer Upper School and King's College School Wimbledon. It will also be used to accelerate development of additional vertical-focused solutions.
