THE POSH GO CROWD SURFING AS FANS GET THEIR OWN ISP Monday 26 November 2001 PDF Print NeonHippo Teams Up With Peterborough United Football Club To Give Supporters A Premier League Unmetered Internet Access Service Birmingham, UK, November 26th: NeonHippo, a UK based Internet Solutions Provider has signed a deal with Nationwide League Division Two football club Peterborough United (The Posh) allowing the club to offer fans a £14.99 a month branded unmetered Internet service. Their deal replaces an existing service run by the club which offered fans a branded dial-up service which meant they incurred call charges when surfing, “This is a great deal for the club and its supporters,” believes Pep Cipriano, Peterborough United’s Head of Communications and Website. “For the same price as the BT service, fans get fast, affordable Internet access, their own ‘posh’ e-mail address and with every monthly payment they make, they help the club financially. In football terms, this is premier league stuff!” Fans who sign up to the deal will get 24/7 unmetered internet access with no call charges or set-up fees. They get an e-mail address with [anything]@[anything].theposhisp.com with seven email addresses, 10Mb webspace, access to more than 85,000 newsgroups and technical support, charged at national rates. Greg Rudd, CEO of NeonHippo is equally enthusiastic about the announcement. “NeonHippo offers one of the top unmetered services currently available in the UK. The service is a full FRIACO one so our affiliates can be sure they are giving to their customers a quality product at a very competitive price. Peterborough United has already shown itself to be at the forefront of football clubs when it comes to adopting an Internet strategy. With our help we aim to substantially increase subscriber numbers providing The Posh with increased revenue and increased supporter loyalty.” Under the Club’s current ISP arrangement, fans could sign up to a free 0845 dial up service. There was no ISP charge but all call charges were carried by the supporters, as Cipriano explains. “By launching the original service, the club demonstrated it was way ahead of its peers in thinking about bringing the Internet and new media into football clubs. The service proved popular and we currently have 1,300 subscribers signed up. However, the service meant that fans had to keep an eye on their surfing time due to call charges. By partnering with NeonHippo, an industry-competitive monthly payment means supporters can stay on-line for as long as they like, and that’s good news for all parties.” The e-mail addresses and accounts of the current subscriber base have been ring-fenced and can be carried across to the new service if the supporters choose to sign up. Concludes Cipriano. “The club will shortly undertake a series of marketing programmes to the new subscriber base. We will be offering special promotions and discounts to users of the service, communicated to them through a regular e-mail newsletter. The service will allow Peterborough United to improve its communication with ardent supporters. It also means we can offer our supporters one of the best deals going on Internet access.” About NeonHippo (www.neonhippo.com): NeonHippo is a major pioneer of flat-rate Internet access services in the UK.
