A real world data and user scalability test undertaken by Compaq on Microstrategy's business intelligence platform has revealed the software's outstanding capability to meet growing data and evolving user requirements. Results show the software helps reduce companies' costs by enabling them to preserve and leverage investment in existing BI infrastructure.

"Leveraging Compaq's leadership clustering capabilities, MicroStrategy adds tremendous value to existing business intelligence infrastructures by increasing operational efficiency and substantially lowering the total cost of ownership for organisations as their databases grow to multi-terabyte levels," said Don Jenkins, Vice President of High Performance Systems Product & Solutions Marketing at Compaq.

Using a combination of Compaq ProLiant and AlphaServer systems, Compaq's scalability tests simulated real-world conditions with a range of 400 to 850 concurrent users, where each user simultaneously ran 40 different queries against a 2-terabyte database, one of the largest database sizes used for testing of this kind. The queries represented actual reports such as top-selling product rankings and sales growth rates, as well as running and moving sales averages. The average response time per report was 1.5 seconds. These reports were then distributed through email at a rate of 24 e-mails per second.
