Web Infrastructure Company Opens API and
Unveils Solution-on-Demand Web Traffic Management Appliances
READING, United Kingdom, (27 November, 2001) – Array Networks (formerly ClickArray Networks) today introduced “Power tools for the Web,” opening its integrated Web infrastructure Array appliance platform for third-party applications and unveiling a suite of solution-on-demand Web traffic management products with a comprehensive suite of product options that enterprises and service providers can tailor to their specific needs.
In a related announcement, the company introduced industry pioneer Donald Massaro, former president of Xerox’s Office Product Division, Shugart Associates and Metaphor Computer Systems, as its new president and chief executive officer, and announced that the company has changed its name from ClickArray Networks to Array Networks.
The company’s all-in-one Array product combines accelerated Layer 4-7 server load balancing with high-performance caching, built-in SSL acceleration, content rewrite for transparent interaction with content delivery networks, Web security, global server load balancing, and seamless clustering.
The Array family’s solution-on-demand configurations will enable network managers to reduce network complexity by deploying virtually any combination of Array functions on a base appliance, with additional capabilities, including third-party applications, activated on an “as-you-grow” basis. Available from Q1, 2002, the flexible product options will enable product configurations that combine, for example, server load balancing and high-performance caching and that can be instantly upgraded with SSL acceleration, global server load balancing, and other key functions as required.
Using the Array API, software developers can rapidly deploy appliance solutions that use the Array platform’s integrated HTTP and TCP processing, connection pooling, and high-availability capabilities. This offers the flexibility to add a rich set of services and features, such as dynamic caching, content replication, advanced security, billing and monitoring systems, etc.
“Power tools for the Web’ are designed to deliver the top return on investment that results from deploying an integrated Web infrastructure,” said Rob Mustarde, VP Business Development EMEA at Array Networks. “By opening the Array platform to developers of Web infrastructure applications and introducing a suite of pay-as-you-grow products we are giving content providers the necessary flexibility to switch on and off applications with ease without having to purchase additional hardware or continue to pay for redundant devices. Array Networks, our new company name reflects our vision to deliver all-in-one solutions that reduce the complexity and risk of Web traffic management.”
According to Michael Hoch, Senior Analyst at the Aberdeen Group, “Our research shows that many enterprises and service providers are evaluating the benefits of integrated solutions – benefits such as lower hardware costs and simplified management of the network infrastructure. Array Networks is one of the first companies to release an integrated product for general availability in the emerging market for multi-function Web infrastructure systems. The company’s all-in-one platform is a good example of this class of product, which can enable a company to control infrastructure costs and reduce complexity while meeting evolving business demands.”
