Embedded Management Products to Support Microsoft Windows XP Embedded and
Windows CE .NET
28 November 2001 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), a leading provider of
systems management solutions built for e-business, announced that its
Embedded Management products fully support Microsoft Windows XP Embedded
operating system. Additionally, Marimba plans to support the Microsoft
Windows CE .NET real-time operating system when Microsoft makes it available
later this year.
Marimba's Embedded Management products will allow vendors of Windows XP
Embedded and Windows CE .NET to embed update capabilities into a
Windows-based device and transparently deliver OS patches, application
fixes, and new features to field-based applications and devices.
"OEMs and IT administrators are always looking for ways to reduce the cost
of managing their network infrastructures," said Scott Horn, director of the
Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "With the embedded
update capabilities included in Marimba's Change Management products, OEMs
can transparently deliver the most current application revisions and
features in their Windows Powered devices, helping to streamline their
development process and dramatically reduce the IT support costs associated
with preparing, updating, and deploying applications."
Marimba Embedded Management
Marimba's Embedded Management products complement Microsoft's
next-generation Embedded operating systems by allowing device and appliance
vendors to speed time to market, reduce IT support costs, improve quality of
service to end- users, and support large groups of users.
* Reduce Support Costs - Embedded updating and built-in self-healing
capabilities help reduce the number of times a user will contact IT support
to address known problems.
* Accelerate Time to Market - Marimba's delivery and update technology
speeds time to market by allowing a device vendor to release a new product
with a core set of features that are then transparently updated to the final
version once they are installed.
* Improve End-user Quality of Service - Targeted delivery of new features
and services enables the vendor to react quickly to competitive pressures
and reduce the potential loss of a customer to a competitive solution.
* Support Large Groups of Users - Built-in load balancing, caching, and
synchronisation mechanisms help ensure that large groups of simultaneous
users experience efficient and reliable downloads.
"The ability to rapidly deliver content and applications is critical for the
new wave of smart devices and appliances," said Rich Wyckoff, president and
CEO of Marimba. "Support for Microsoft's Windows CE .NET and Windows XP
Embedded will make Marimba the only company offering an Embedded Management
solution with a proven back-end infrastructure that can scale to support
millions of users."
