Paris, November 29, 2001 - Eutelsat one of the world’s leading providers of satellite communications solutions has officially launched its new digital package of foreign-language television channels called visAvision, in Germany. Callahan Associates, one of Europe’s leading cable companies, is the first operator to have concluded a carriage contract with Eutelsat for visAvision through its German subsidiary (that operates under the name ish). ish is now feeding a package of 14 foreign-language channels into its cable networks in two German federal Laender, Northrhein-Westphalia and Baden-Wurttemberg, with a total of 6.4 million subscribers. These two states are home to 3.2 million of a total of 7.3 million foreigners living in Germany.

”We are now offering homes an additional service that matches subscriber demand,” said Dieter Hähle, ish’s operating business manager, who welcomed the new foreign-language programming delivered through visAvision.

Eutelsat’s satellites broadcast 996 TV channels in 30 languages and has developed the visAvision package in cooperation with leading foreign programme providers. After this successful market entry, Eutelsat will continue to expand visAvision into other European markets including. Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands.

visAvision begins in Germany with 14 channels in four packages. For the Turkish-speaking community a package consisting of four channels are being fed into the cable networks operated by ish. The Russian package begins with two channels; NTV International and Nashe Kino. Italians will have access to the three RAI channels and Spaniards to TVEI. A further package contains one Serbian, a Croatian as well as two Polish programmes including the travel channel MarcoPolo supplied by Sitcom S.p.A.. Eutelsat will continue to expand visAvision in the next year to address other foreign communities.

ish already offers integrated communications services in Northrhein-Westphalia including access to telephone and Internet services at multiple DSL speeds via cable. visAvision in the first phase will be offered alongside analogue services and by the end of 2002 will be fully integrated into the fully digital mix of services
