Faced with obsolete data and limited resources, Cummins Engines turned to i2 experts Data Technology to upgrade their systems and train their users.
London 11th December 2001. Cummins Engines, the largest independent diesel engine manufacturer in Europe and acknowledged leader in engine technology chose Data Technology Plc to migrate their i2 systems.
Cummins uses i2’s Demand Planner, which helps them accurately model their business and reduce forecast errors, and Factory Planner to optimise on-time delivery performance.
Martin Russell, Supply Chain Manager at Cummins Engines said, “We needed to upgrade our i2 implementation from version 4.5 to 5.1 to gain benefit from new functionality, in particular the new ‘consumption logic’ that would dramatically increase our performance and ability to forecast accurately and efficiently.”
Prior to the upgrade Cummins found that data was obsolete and they often needed to take systems down in order to extract data, this was time consuming and open to errors.
Russell added, “We asked Data Technology to assist us in 3 areas, first to take a look at our existing systems and advise on how to optimise them; second to upgrade our i2 implementation to the new version and third to train our users to be self sufficient. All three tasks were completed effectively, on time and within budget. We now have the skills to manage the processes internally and have freed up IT resources which is allowing us to further develop our systems to meet the changing needs of the business.”
Gus Machado, Chairman of Data Technology said, “We offer customers world-class skills and expertise, at a reasonable cost, and help them drive their systems forward to fully exploit the technology in place. Cummins Engines is a demonstration of how collaboration works, we are very pleased to have been involved in this project and to have made a demonstrable difference.
