Digital signatures offer enhanced efficiency of business processes
Utimaco Safeware today announced the general availability of its latest release of SafeGuard® Sign&Crypt for Office version 3.0. This release provides the benefit of advanced document security by allowing organisations to migrate from paper-based business processes to more efficient and cost reducing electronic techniques.
SafeGuard Sign&Crypt for Office is an easy to use tool for signing and encrypting all sorts of valuable documents. For example, it is the ideal solution for securing business documents exchanged between colleagues, partners and clients, such as contracts, or for adding integrity and authentication to online documents, such as regulations and procedures. It is seamlessly integrated into various applications, including Microsoft Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and also comes with a special secure viewer that makes WYSIWYS or “What You See Is What You Sign” * easy to handle for any type of file or document.
SafeGuard Sign&Crypt for Office 3.0 enhances the functionality of SafeGuard Sign&Crypt 2.1 with multiple key pairs and multiple signatures, combining co-signing and hierarchical signing*, as well as a mixture of the two. Also newly available in this version is SafeGuard Sign&Crypt Signature Verifier, a freely downloadable, Java tool for verifying digitally signed documents.
“With this new version we are offering companies a user-friendly tool which substantially increases the level of security when exchanging and storing sensitive information”, commented Jackie Groves, managing director, Utimaco Safeware UK. “At the same time SafeGuard Sign&Crypt gives companies the opportunity to implement cost reducing electronic equivalents of their current paper-based business processes.”

*NOTES TO EDITOR:
In 1995, Utimaco Safeware introduced the WYSIWYS (What You See Is What You Sign) concept. The secure viewer is a component that converts and displays documents as static images and eliminates any automatic document changes, either by active content or macros, from taking effect. The secure viewer is designed and certified to work in a way that there is no difference between what you see and what you sign. The result is equivalent to a signed piece of paper: A signed static representation of the document. This allows all involved parties to verify the viewed file and use the secure viewer to display the exact content of the data in the way the originator intended.
Meaning the file or document has to be countersigned by someone senior in the organisation.
